Jiu-Jitsu Gives Adults Something They Lost After College
I often reflect on what makes Jiu-Jitsu so special and why its growing so much.
One of my conclusions is this:
Jiu-Jitsu gives adults something many of us lose after college.
When we’re kids, we’re surrounded by people every day. We go through elementary school, middle school, high school, and college with a group of friends. We spend hours together every week, sharing experiences, challenges, and memories.
Then adulthood arrives.
We get busy with work, family, responsibilities, and routines. For many people, that sense of belonging slowly disappears. The tribe we once had becomes harder and harder to find.
And I think that’s one of the biggest values of Jiu-Jitsu.
You walk into a Jiu-Jitsu academy and suddenly you have a community again.
Doctors, lawyers, firefighters, police officers, business owners, students, and people from every background all sharing the same mats.
You train together.
You struggle together.
You improve together.
And over time, you become friends.
Of course, Jiu-Jitsu teaches self-defense, helps you get in shape, and builds confidence.
But the friendships, the community, and the feeling of being part of a tribe again…
To me, that’s one of the biggest reasons Jiu-Jitsu is so special and why it’s growing so much.
What do you think? Have you found that sense of community through Jiu-Jitsu? Let me know in the comments. 👇🥋
