One of my favorite pieces of advice for engagement sessions:

Don’t just pick a pretty location. Pick something you’d actually enjoy doing together.

Ride the ski lift.
Grab pizza afterward.
Go kayaking.
Bring your dog.
Fish for the evening.
Hike to the overlook.
Stop for ice cream on the drive home.

The best photos usually happen in the moments in between; the laughing & skipping, the cheering each other on, and the random things that make you two... you.

If your engagement session feels like a date you’d already plan together, you’re probably on the right track. đŸ€

I don’t think everyone should elope.

But I also don’t think everyone should have a traditional wedding.

I’ve talked to so many couples who kept trying to make themselves excited about a big wedding because they thought that’s what they were supposed to do.

Then they found out elopements were actually a thing.

As a photographer for 10+ years, I think couples spend too much time asking,

“What will look good?”
..and not enough time asking,

“What will help us be present?”

Those two questions lead to very different wedding days.

The beautiful photos are usually the byproduct of couples who were fully there with each other
not couples trying to create perfect photos.

Build a day you’ll actually want to live.

They’re the ones where a couple is so busy enjoying each other that they forget they’re being photographed.

The wind was doing whatever it wanted.
The dress had a mind of its own.
And these two couldn’t stop smiling.
