🌼Plant of the Week Alert!🌼

This week's plant is Rudbeckia hirta, also know as Black-Eyed Susan. We have three varieties available at Robben Florist and Garden Center and are so excited to tell you about them!

Rudbeckia hirta, or Black-Eyed Susan, is a bright perennial that is easy to grow, deer-resistant, and beloved by pollinating insects, butterflies, and birds. They thrive in full to part sun and are forgiving on soil type and pH, so long as it is well-draining. Once established, they are drought tolerant and require very little maintenance. Deadhead spent flowers to encourage additional blooms. Rudbeckia will bloom starting in the summer all the way to first frost. They make beautiful dried flowers and long-lasting cut flowers. They look wonderful added to a border or as a mass planting.

💛💛Amarillo Gold💛💛
Amarillo Gold is an award-winning Black-Eyed Susan noted to bloom earlier by the All-American Selection judge panel. It’s a compact plant, growing roughly 12-18” tall and 12”-24” wide with bright yellow blooms and light green centers that reach 4”-6” across. This variety has dense, uniform blooms making it a perfect bedding plant.

🤎🤎Denver Daisy🤎🤎
Denver Daisy grows a bit taller, reaching 18”-32” tall while spreading roughly 12-18” wide. This variety has dark brown centers and a striking mahogany ring on the petals around the center. The blooms reach between 3” and 7” across atop sturdy stems that make them a great choice to use in bouquets. These are profuse bloomers that will bloom from early summer though first frost.

🧡🧡Indian Summer🧡🧡
Indian Summer is a garden giant, among rudbeckia hirta varieties. It can reach 3 to 4 feet tall, spreading 18”-26” wide. This variety sports extra-large single and semi-double blooms reaching up to 9” wide with golden petals and dark-chocolate centers. Despite its height, it has very sturdy stems and doesn’t require staking to keep it stable.

It's that time of the year again! Fall is approaching, which means soon we'll have to move our tender plants back indoors. Before you do that, though, you should remember an important first step:
Pest prevention with systemic granules.

Using this on your plants at least 4 weeks, but up to 8 weeks before bringing them indoors will prevent insects from coming in with them. You can also use it on any indoor plants that have a fungus gnat or other similar insect problem year-round.
