Mavis Staples, a once-in-a-generation artist, is “The Messenger” as she said the day before her 80th birthday.

“I sing because I want to leave people feeling better than I found them…I want them to walk away with a positive message in their hearts, feeling stronger than they felt before. I’m singing to myself for those same reasons, too.”

She’s a civil rights icon who has marched with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., performed at JFK’s inauguration and more. Staples is also a Blues and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, GRAMMY Award winner, Kennedy Center honoree… the list goes on and on.
