Destination East Central Illinois.

Sometimes there’s much more happening out here by the Bloomfield Barn than meets the eye of the flyover folks.

Hunters have traveled to this area from across the country for years — and the world-record whitetail was taken just down the road from us.

Now, with Canyata, a highly sought-after, nearby golf destination soon welcoming a whole new group of visitors, even more people will be discovering this part of Illinois.

And we’ve seen a little of that destination magic ourselves.

Each summer, the Pure Country show brings antique dealers and buyers from across the country right here to Bloomfield Barn — some traveling hundreds of miles to spend a weekend with us here in Edgar County.

We’ve also hosted couples from as far away as Texas, North Carolina, Washington - and even England - who chose the beauty of our secluded spot and started their happily-ever-after beneath our soaring timber-frame roof.

Hunting. Golf. Antiques. Weddings.

Maybe our little corner of “flyover country” isn’t so flyover after all.

In keeping with our rural setting, our landscaping is filled with native prairie plants and old-fashioned favorites like these interesting beauties. Whether you call them “surprise lilies” or by the more colorful name “naked ladies”, the lycoris are having a banner year at the Barn. They appear as just strappy green leaves in the spring that die back only to be replaced seemingly overnight by large and colorful, pink blooms. Just another example of the diversity in our gardens; there is almost always something show-stopping in full bloom at Bloomfield!
