A reporter for Men’s Health learned about Choctaw Stickball and had to come see it for himself. He attended a Pearl River practice and talked to coaches and players.

For the Choctaw nation in Mississippi, playing stickball is much more than a game.

The 2025 World Series Stickball (WSS) All-Star Stickball Games was held on Tuesday evening, August 5th. The program began with Opening Ceremonies, as Tribal Chief Cyrus Ben and 2025-2026 Choctaw Indian Princess Lexi Camille Rodriguez offered everyone a warm welcome. In his remarks, Chief Ben reminded everyone of the importance and sacredness of our Mother Mound and our rich cultural heritage. Pastor Thomas Ben, who also serves as the WSS Commissioner, gave the invocation, and Choctaw youth Paeton Gibson sang the National Anthem in the Choctaw language. The Men’s 50 and Over Exhibition Game was then played, followed by the Women’s and Men’s All-Star Games.

Our Story

Halito! Greetings from the Choctaw Indian Reservation. We are saddened to report that the 2020 Choctaw Indian Fair has been cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Because We Care we urge you to continue to take safety precautions (social distancing, washing your hand regularly, and refrain from gathering until safe). We must all do our part to protect and heal our communities.

The fair takes place on our centuries-old homeland in beautiful Choctaw, Mississippi. Normally, we gather each July to celebrate our heritage and share our beautiful and vibrant culture with our friends and neighbors. Fairgoers will experience the magnificent journey of our people through historical and cultural displays, social dancing, tribal arts & crafts, Choctaw stickball – the granddaddy of all field sports – as well as the Choctaw Indian Princess Pageant and traditional Choctaw food. The fair also offers carnival rides and games for the young and old alike, Shawi’s Discovery Zone and chart-topping musical acts each night. There’s something for everyone at the Choctaw Indian Fair – we may not see you this year but we will see you next year!
