Most teams spend so much time focused on “what’s next” that they stop being fully present with the people standing right beside them.

The strongest teams aren’t built someday.

They’re built Here. Now.

In the conversations we slow down enough to have.

In the support we offer each other during pressure.

In the laughter, trust, accountability, and human connection that happen in real time.

That’s why purposeful play and meaningful team experiences matter. They pull people out of autopilot and remind them how to connect again-not just as coworkers, but as people working toward something together.

Because culture is never built later.

It’s built in the moments happening right in front of us.

Somewhere along the way, work became a calendar contest. Back-to-back meetings.

“Quick touch bases.”

Weekly check-ins that somehow need 14 people on the invite. Brainstorm sessions that could have been three bullet points in an email.

And while everyone is sitting in conference rooms talking about the work… the actual work is piling up quietly at their desks.

We have created a culture where being busy often looks more valuable than being productive.

The truth?

Too many meetings don’t create momentum. They create exhaustion. People leave mentally drained, behind on deadlines, overwhelmed by constant interruptions, and frustrated because they can’t focus long enough to actually think deeply, solve problems, or create meaningful progress.

Not every conversation needs a meeting.
Not every update needs an hour.
And not every person needs to be in the room.

The most effective teams are not the ones who meet the most. They are the ones who communicate clearly, trust each other, and respect each other’s time.

Great leaders know the difference between collaboration and clutter. Sometimes the best thing you can do for your team is cancel the meeting.

Give people space to think.
Space to create.
Space to focus.
Space to breathe.

Because innovation rarely happens in “The Bored Room.”

It happens when talented people actually have the time and energy to do the work that matters.

Water has a funny way of teaching us things.
When you’re underwater, you realize pretty quickly what matters most… breathing room.
Teams need that too.
Not just pressure.
Not just productivity.
Not just another meeting.
Connection. Energy. Trust. Laughter.
Moments that remind people they’re human before they’re employees.
That’s often where the best teamwork begins.
Sometimes a little purposeful play is exactly what keeps a team afloat.

There’s something powerful about connecting with high school students and reminding them that “NO” isn’t the end of their story.
The rejection. The setback.
The thing that didn’t go their way.
Sometimes the very thing they think is holding them back… is actually shaping who they’re about to become.
I love challenging students to stop fearing “no” and start using it as fuel to ask bigger questions, take more chances, and keep showing up anyway.
Because one “yes” can change everything.

Fantastic Big Cake Challenge with Global Oncology yesterday! The meeting planner texted me last night she heard numerous comments that this was the BEST team building event they’ve ever done!
Why you ask? Because we are about full engagement and participation. Everyone plays a part on their team.
We allow them to PLAY TOGETHER and bond over fun and collaboration.
We keep the energy high, the mood festive and they can eat all the cake, icing and candy they want! The sugar high is real…but the sense of camaraderie is sweet!!
Outstanding cakes and presentations! They will be talking about this a long time!

Fresh air isn’t a luxury-it’s a performance strategy.
When teams step outside and engage in a fun, high-energy team building experience, something shifts. Barriers drop. Conversations get real. People who rarely interact suddenly collaborate, laugh, and problem-solve together.
And here’s the kicker-when they come back into the meeting, everything is sharper.
✔️ Communication flows more naturally
✔️ Ideas come faster (and better)
✔️ Energy is higher
✔️ Collaboration feels easier
You’re not “taking time away” from the meeting… you’re investing in making the meeting actually work. The best strategies don’t come from staring at slides for hours.
They come from connected teams who trust each other enough to think bigger.
Take them outside. Let them play. Then watch what happens when they get back to work.

My leadership training theory: There’s something about this image that feels real-no filters, no polish, just intensity. And honestly, that’s exactly how I approach my work.
Here’s the truth: growth doesn’t happen in the comfortable, “everything is fine” moments. It happens when things feel a little messy… a little uncertain… maybe even a little uncomfortable.
That’s where I meet teams.
In those moments when communication breaks down. When leadership gets tested. When the “way we’ve always done it” just isn’t cutting it anymore.

My job isn’t to keep things dry-it’s to lean into the real conversations, the raw moments, and help teams come out stronger, more connected, and ready to perform at a higher level.
Because the best teams?
They don’t avoid the storm.
They learn how to lead through it.
