The Columbia River Salmon Derby is back — and this year, our community needs it more than ever.

For over 100 years, the Port of Chinook has been at the heart of our little fishing town — boats heading out before daylight, kids growing up on the docks, families built around salmon, crab, and the Columbia River. The Chinook Port Alliance, a 100% volunteer nonprofit, was created to make sure that legacy continues.

Every dollar raised from this derby stays right here in Chinook to support facility upgrades and improvements at the Port of Chinook — docks, launch, parking, and the working waterfront our fishing and crab fleets rely on. After the devastating seafood landing facility fire just days before the 2024 Dungeness crab season, the Alliance helped raise emergency funds for the crab fleet. That’s what community looks like here.

The Chinook Port Alliance isn’t just a committee or a name on a letterhead — it’s neighbors fighting for the future of our little fishing town.

For over a century, the Port of Chinook has been the heartbeat of this community: boats heading out in the dark, kids growing up on the docks, families built around salmon, crab, and the Columbia River. When things get hard here, we don’t wait for someone else to fix it — we roll up our sleeves and do it ourselves.

That’s why the Chinook Port Alliance was formed. A 100% volunteer group, raising money so our port doesn’t just survive, it belongs to the community. We’ve helped fund docks, kiosks, parking and launch repairs, and even stepped up after the devastating fire in January 2024 to support the crab fleet just days before the Dungeness season was supposed to start. When our working waterfront was hurting, this community showed up.

Every dollar we raise stays right here in Chinook. It keeps our launch open, our boats working, and our kids growing up with a place to fish, boat, and dream.

The Chinook Port Alliance is gearing up for this year’s Fishing Derby on August 21–22, a fun community event that also serves as an important fundraiser to support our Port of Chinook.
