Just checking in… because sometimes wedding planning gets really loud. ✨

There are opinions. Traditions. Pinterest boards. Vendor emails. Timelines. Budgets. And approximately 427 tiny decisions no one warned you about.

But here’s what I want you to remember:

You’re planning a day you’re supposed to actually experience, not just execute.

Leave room to breathe.
Leave room to be together.
Skip the things that don’t feel like you.
And please, for the love of a good timeline, build in transition time.

Your wedding doesn’t need to include everything.

It just needs to feel like you.

Consider this your friendly planner check-in.

Question: What’s one wedding “rule” you’re happily ignoring?

I bought a house! 🎉

The last time I walked into this building it was to sign away ownership to a home that was no longer mine. As I stood at the counter that day, tears just started rolling down my face. I didn’t feel sad, but my body knew. It knew it was the last step in closing a chapter I never knew would close. It was the grieving of a life I had planned, that would never come to be. It was the acknowledgment that the future was truly unknown and in many ways, that was super scary. I think I also knew that if I chose to continue to build my business, have flexibility to be with my kiddos, travel, and more…I would likely never own a home again as a single mom.

Ten years later, here we are. I’m still a self employed single mom, my kids are thriving, business is growing, and we bought a home!

The tears have come back but this time, they are full of gratitude.

To my family, thank you for your endless support and belief in me.

To my friend and agent Jon Kressin, who has walked many chapters of the last 18 years with me. Thank you for advocating for me, educating me, and ‘managing my expectations’. You really would make a great wedding planner!

To my clients and my team, who not only make this work profitable (lol) but more importantly - meaningful. Thank you.

To my kiddos, oh man…these two…they are my reason for everything. Parker and Bailey, your support, patience, encouragement, and love literally fill my life with more goodness than I could have imagined.

And to a God who always provides, always loves, and always gives us more than we can imagine, thank you.

I am so grateful. ❤️

✨Fun Friday✨

“I’ll need you to take your pants off before I’ll sew the seam.”

“I’m going to have to ask you to stop touching that.”

“Unfortunately, your layout won’t work because the room is a rectangle, not square.”

“Do you have p**p bags for the dog?”

“Please put your clothes back on and come back to the event area.”

These aren’t even the top 5!

What have you said during a work day that later, you laughed about?

This week an artist team sent over the first draft timeline for one of my upcoming brides getting ready window. This a perfect example of something couples rarely think about: hair and makeup logistics can really have an impact on the whole day.

Here are our must haves…
✨ Encourage everyone to arrive at the same time. The vibe stays high and there are no gaps in people getting in the chairs.

✨ Do everything possible to not start before 8am, because exhausted brides don’t glow the way rested ones do.

✨ Get your stylists prep directions to your girls! Usually it’s arriving with a clean face and dry hair.

✨ Place grooms mama and flower girls later in the schedule. If things run late, they usually are the ones with flexibility.

✨ Make sure you have a plan for food so everyone stays onsite and no one gets hangry.

✨ Build in touch-up windows before photos.

✨ Have your bridesmaids get dressed before you. The photos of a bride getting in their gorgeous gown with their MOH or mom in her sweats just don’t land well.

It looks simple on paper. It is not simple to build. Getting this right is the difference between a calm morning and a rushed one.

HMUA friends, what do you want to add?

Most couples don’t know what they don’t know when they’re hiring a wedding planner—and that’s completely normal.

It’s easy to focus on the little details that feel important…

✨ What’s in your emergency kit?
✨ How many weddings have you done at our venue?
✨ What color do you wear on the wedding day?
✨ Do you bring a steamer?
✨ Can you pin a boutonnière?

The truth? Any experienced planner should have those basics covered.

Hiring a planner isn’t about finding someone who owns safety pins and a garment steamer. It’s about choosing the person you’ll trust with one of the most meaningful days of your life.

Ask about how they navigate family dynamics. How they handle a timeline that’s falling apart. How they communicate under pressure. How they protect your experience when no one else even realizes there’s a problem.

Because luxury isn’t an emergency kit.

Luxury is never knowing there was an emergency in the first place.

Swipe through for five questions that will tell you far more about your planner than what’s inside their emergency kit. 🤍

Save this for when you’re interviewing planners—or send it to a newly engaged friend who needs it.
