The bugle sounded First Call/Call to the Post last night and we were off…to the dance floor! 🎺

We sure had fun at the Itasca Country Club having dinner, dancing to the music of Steve Cooper and his orchestra, and celebrating the Kentucky Derby.

The hats! The mint juleps! The roses! The friendships! The dinner! The music! The dancing! We were all winners last night!

(And for President Steve Bergmann, Sovereignty was the winner of the 2025 Kentucky Derby.🌹)

We’re all getting ready to dance on April 18th, with Run for the Roses as our theme. Don’t forget to wear your derby finery when you come out!

Here are some fun facts about the Kentucky Derby to get you in the right frame of mind. 🐎
—————————————————————

1. Nineteen past winners have had names beginning with the letter "S," including Secretariat.

2. The amount of food consumed at the Derby is pretty astounding. On average, spectators will eat 142,000 hot dogs, 18,000 barbecue sandwiches, 13,800 pounds of beef, 32,400 jumbo shrimp, 9,000 scallops, 8,000 pounds of potatoes, 30,000 cookies and 300,000 strawberries.

3. Only three horses ran in the 1892 and 1905 Kentucky Derby races.

4. It makes up one third of the coveted Triple Crown along with the Belmont Stakes and the Preakness Stakes.

5. The traditional drink of the Derby is the mint julep, and over 120,000 are said to be consumed at the race each year.

Our Valentine’s Day dance at Villa Olivia was a lovely tribute to romance and friendship as we danced to the outstanding music of Swing Shift. Love was truly in the air.

We missed SO many of our dance friends last night, but those that attended last night’s Kicking off the Holidays had a great time dancing to Vintage Swing at Villa Olivia. And we got home in front of the snow that arrived in the night! ❄️❄️❄️
(Thank you to Steve Bergmann and John Wiedmeyer for the photography and videos!)
