🎼 As I got older, I have always been awed on how long most Soukous hits were, (especially the classic ones) Songs like Mario - TP OK Jazz - Franco Luambo Makiadi would run for a cool 15 minutes!! (That would make the current generation faint, given that they can only stand 30 seconds of any song!!)

Our parents had the energy and stamina to stand the full “track” !

Well, this set is a challenge to anyone above 35!! It’s fast-paced Soukous ( aka Lingala), and if you can dance to the full set of one hour, 20 minutes without limping, gasping, wimping, whining or drinking water…..oh yes….You still got it.
If not? Well, imagine that you can in your younger thoughts! (Sometimes, the mind is younger and willing, but the body lets us down!!)

I rarely do artiste profile sets, but this particular one has always blown my mind.....Sade!!

Helen Folasade Adu, known professionally as Sade Adu or simply Sade, was born on January 16, 1959, in Ibadan, Nigeria. She is a British singer, songwriter, composer, and actress, best known as the lead vocalist of the British band Sade.

Sade was born to a Nigerian father and an English mother. Her parents separated when she was young, and she moved to England with her mother. She grew up in a diverse musical environment, listening to soul, jazz, and Afrobeat music.

Sade formed the band Sade in 1983 with three other musicians. Their debut album, "Diamond Life" (1984), was a huge success, spawning hits like "Your Love Is King" and "Smooth Operator". The album sold over 10 million copies worldwide and established Sade as a leading figure in contemporary soul music.

Over the years, Sade has released several critically acclaimed and commercially successful albums, including "Promise" (1985), "Stronger Than Pride" (1988), "Love Deluxe" (1992), and "Lovers Rock" (2000). Her music often deals with themes of love, relationships, and social issues.

There is something special about combing through a crate of records, finding a matching possibility, pulling out a record from the sleeve, and placing the vynal on the spinner/platter..... getting the player arm and placing the nibble at the right snare or beat!

The sound of a scratchy hiss and first hook followed by a full bar and later a full melloddy....is absolutely an indescribable feeling.
(Im sure the millennial generation is wondering what the heck I'm talking about)

In the back of your head, you know the amount of craft, artistry, skill, time, and articulate measures that were put into creating such a beautiful track.

This feeling is on the verge of extinction with the newer technology, but for some, that have experienced both "worlds"..... we still take a moment to reflect on feeling.
