This past weekend, we were proud to celebrate the beginning of an exciting new partnership between the Irish American Heritage Center and the Richard H. Driehaus Museum during our Member Swap Weekend and Monthly Mass & Full Irish Breakfast.

A special thank you to Julie Treumann, Director of Marketing & Communications at the Driehaus Museum, for joining us and sharing more about the museum’s fascinating Ink & Outrage exhibition, which explores the powerful role Irish political cartoons played in shaping public opinion, identity, and history.

Throughout the morning, we reflected on why partnerships like this matter. By connecting two of Chicago’s cultural institutions, we’re creating more opportunities for our communities to discover, appreciate, and celebrate the city’s rich history and diverse cultural heritage together.

Thank you to everyone who attended, toured the Center, and helped make this inaugural partnership weekend such a success. We’re incredibly grateful to the team at the Richard H. Driehaus Museum and look forward to many more collaborations in the future.

Here’s to preserving history, building community, and celebrating Chicago’s vibrant cultural landscape—together. ☘️🤝

A Truly Special Visit to the Irish American Heritage Center ☘️

Yesterday, we had the tremendous honor of welcoming The Most Reverend Eamon Martin, Archbishop of Armagh and Primate of All Ireland, to the Irish American Heritage Center.

It was a privilege to share with His Grace the many cultural, historical, educational, and community spaces that make the IAHC so much more than a building—it is a place where Irish heritage is celebrated, friendships are formed, traditions are preserved, and generations come together.

Throughout his visit, Archbishop Martin graciously took the time to meet with everyone who wished to greet him, making each person feel genuinely welcomed and valued. He spent time with members of the Ancient Order of Hibernians (& LAOH), IAHC board members and staff, founding members of the Center, our dedicated Irish Community Services team, the incredible volunteers who help keep this organization thriving, and so many others from our Irish community.

One of the most memorable moments of the afternoon came when Archbishop Martin took a seat in the historic William Howard Taft Chair. Commissioned by the Irish Fellowship Club of Chicago for President William Howard Taft's visit to Chicago in 1910, the chair has since been used by countless distinguished guests at St. Patrick's Day celebrations throughout the decades.

What made the moment even more remarkable was its historical connection: almost exactly 100 years ago, on June 25, 1926, Archbishop Martin's predecessor, Patrick Cardinal O'Donnell, Archbishop of Armagh and Primate of All Ireland, sat in that very same chair. Reflecting on this incredible coincidence, Archbishop Martin described it as a "truly special moment" to experience here at the Irish American Heritage Center.

During his remarks, His Grace emphasized the importance of preserving our culture and passing it on to future generations. He shared that everyone involved with the Irish American Heritage Center should be proud of what has been built here—a place that so many people truly consider their second home.

As a small token of our gratitude, the Irish American Heritage Center was honored to present Archbishop Martin with a Lifetime Membership to the Center. We hope this serves as a reminder that he will always have a home here in Chicago, and we look forward to welcoming him back with open arms whenever his travels bring him our way.

Thank you, Archbishop Martin, for your warmth, your kindness, and for inspiring all of us to continue preserving and celebrating our shared heritage for generations to come. ☘️

☘️ Celebrate a New Cultural Partnership at Our July Mass & Full Irish Breakfast!

This July, the Irish American Heritage Center is proud to launch an exciting new partnership with the Richard H. Driehaus Museum through our first-ever Member Swap Weekend, taking place July 17–19.

This collaboration brings together two of Chicago’s premier cultural institutions to celebrate our shared commitment to preserving history, fostering community, and showcasing Irish heritage through art, architecture, and education. Throughout the weekend, members of both organizations are invited to experience each other’s spaces, exhibitions, and programming through exclusive member benefits.

The highlight of the weekend is our Sunday Mass & Full Irish Breakfast on July 19.

Join us for Mass at 10:00 AM in the Mayfair Theatre, followed by a traditional Full Irish Breakfast in the Fifth Province Pub. We’ll be welcoming special guests from the Richard H. Driehaus Museum as we celebrate this exciting new partnership.

This month’s breakfast also highlights the Driehaus Museum’s acclaimed exhibition, Ink & Outrage: 18th-Century Satirical Prints in London & Dublin. The exhibition explores how artists in Ireland and Britain used satire, humor, and printmaking to challenge authority and reflect the political and social issues of their time.

At the Irish American Heritage Center, our mission extends beyond music and dance to celebrate Irish literature, visual arts, history, and storytelling. Ink & Outrage embodies that mission by showcasing an important chapter of Ireland’s artistic and cultural legacy, making it a fitting exhibition to celebrate as we begin this partnership.

Whether you’re an IAHC member visiting the Driehaus Museum, a Driehaus member discovering the IAHC, or simply joining us for breakfast, we invite you to celebrate this exciting collaboration and the many ways Irish culture continues to connect our communities.
