Established in 1965. Fantasy Costumes Chicago is the largest costume store that is open year round in the Chicagoland area. It was opened in 1965 by George Garcia and he still owns and runs the store on 4065 N Milwaukee Avenue. Fantasy Costumes got its start as a wig shop providing wigs, hairpieces and styling services to men and women experiencing hair loss. Customers were often seeking wigs for alopecia or natural looking, everyday wigs for hair loss due to cancer treatment. George started stocking costumes during the holidays to lighten the mood. It started with scary and funny Halloween costumes, Santa Claus Christmas outfits and Mardi Gras masquerade masks. But it kept growing. The store kept expanding to accommodate more holidays like St. Patrick's Day, Fourth of July, Thanksgiving, Oktoberfest and more. The store is over 20,000 square feet and has separate departments for wigs and makeup, costume rentals, masquerade masks, Halloween costumes for adults and kids and costume accessories.
