Getting to Know Us:

We are the leadership and staff of arts organizations, individual artists and arts patrons who have joined together to support the growth of the Black Arts community in and around Chicago. When you join us, you'll network with colleagues and peers at special events and exciting arts activities while becoming more involved in the cultural movement taking place in Chicago. Membership in the Alliance is the perfect way to demonstrate your support for African American art in all its forms. Membership Benefits Include:

CONVERGENCE, our quarterly newsletter and event calendar will keep you up to date with productions sponsored by the Alliance and events in the community as a whole.

*Workshops and Forums
Workshops and forums, held both as part of our quarterly General Membership Meetings and throughout the year. Members are encouraged to suggest topics.

*Alliance Sponsored Events
Active influence and participation in Alliance productions, including Black Arts Month, our annual Fall festival promoting our talented members.

Resources and information, such as practical insight on grant deadlines, job availability and so much more! Membership Tier:

Organization Member ($150)
For organizations that promote or produce Black artistic expression in any arts discipline, including but not limited to performance, visual art, literary art and design. To qualify for membership, organizations must be located in Illinois or provide a forum for Black artistic expression in the Chicago area for a significant portion of the year. Member organizations are also required to attend one annual membership meeting. Individual Artist ($35)
To qualify, persons must currently practice activity as an artist or be a student of the arts in the Chicago area. Patron ($35)
To qualify, persons must be an advocate for, and supporter of, Black artistic expression in the Chicago area. Patrons are afforded the same benefits and privileges of an Individual Artist membership excepting the right to vote. Students/Seniors ($25)
To qualify, persons must be students and/or senior citizens, and must be an advocate for, and supporter of, Black artistic expression in the Chicago area.

October 1–3, Red Clay Dance Company brings Freedom Square: The Black Girlhood Altar to the Virginia Wadsworth Wirtz Center for the Performing Arts for three evenings of remembrance, movement, and collective care.

Created by Vershawn Sanders-Ward, this evening-length dance-theater work honors missing and murdered Black women and girls while imagining a future where they are fully seen, supported, and celebrated.

Following Thursday’s opening performance, audiences are invited to remain for a post-show conversation with Sanders-Ward and creative collaborators.

🎭 Celebrating Ron OJ Parson 🎭

The League of Chicago Theatres is proud to honor Ron OJ Parson with the 2026 Lifetime Achievement Award at this year’s Spotlight Gala.

For decades, Ron has been a vital force in Chicago theatre, building a remarkable career as a director, educator, actor, and artistic leader. His work has helped shape the stories Chicago audiences encounter and the artists who bring those stories to life.

Through his directing and artistic leadership, Ron has championed Black voices, elevated underrepresented stories, and has helped nurture generations of theatre artists. His work has left an indelible mark on Chicago's theatrical landscape and continues to influence the field today.

A lifetime in theatre is measured not only by the productions created, but by the people inspired, the stories amplified, and the doors opened along the way.

This October, we are honored to celebrate Ron OJ Parson and his extraordinary contributions to Chicago theatre with the Lifetime Achievement Award.
