Just as the business began on a whim more than two decades ago, we enjoy taking an idea and seeing what happens when we try it out, whether it’s planting a vegetable garden, creating a new menu, or implementing a new sustainability program. What started as a simple plan for a small garden turned into an urban farm with 75 raised beds and an apiary. Our urban farm is a showcase in our belief in creating fresh menus reflecting Chicago’s growing season. In 2013 we became a 4 Star Certified Green Restaurant and were named “Greenest Caterer in America,” a status awarded to foodservice businesses
that adhere to the strictest environmental standards.

Hi Chicago friends,
I'm trying to find someone to sublease the BDP office — located one door north of BDP. It could be an office, an interior design showroom, a storage space, florist, yoga or pilates studio — the landlord says no to messy or noisy businesses. It's a great space in a fantastic location at Hubbard and Wolcott — right near Salvage One and a lot of venues. Please share with anyone you know. A lot of you have been asking what I’ve been up to since closing BDP after 31 years. Today, on Earth Day, I’m pulling back the curtain — just a little. 👀

For over a decade, BDP was recognized as the most sustainable catering company in the country. We composted, we farmed, and we hosted hundreds of students, companies, and organizations who wanted to learn how we did it. That work never left me, and I really enjoyed talking about it.

So I went back to school at the beginning of last year to learn more about what we were already doing. I completed an intensive Sustainable Business Strategy program at Stanford — and now I’m channeling all of it into something new.
I’m not ready to reveal everything yet, but I am ready to share this fun and dirty project that has become a passion project for me:

The Big Delicious Planet building and urban farm are officially on the market.

This property has been home to 16 years of creativity, hard work, and community — and to a business that grew and evolved over 31 years. In 2012, I started our urban farm on three city lots with the belief that hospitality could be more thoughtful, more connected to the land, more fun, and a beautiful setting for intimate event events.

I’m incredibly proud of what we built here, and my hope is that the next steward will recognize how special this place is and continue nurturing the farm and the spirit behind it.

These are the people who showed up early, stayed late, worked endless nights & weekends, solved problems no one saw coming, and brought Big Delicious Planet’s magic to life day after day.

They filled in for each other, cheered each other on, cared deeply about the work, and poured their creativity and heart into every event, every meal, and every guest experience.

They are talented, thoughtful, funny, resilient, professional, and endlessly dedicated. Watching them grow, lead, pivot, and shine has been one of the greatest honors of my career. The positive feedback we’ve received from clients about our amazing team has always made me proud.

I couldn’t have built 31 years of BDP without them. I’m honored to have been their boss, and more excited to see what they all do next post-BDP. 💕
