Fun fact: nearly half of my couples don’t actually live in Chicago.

They’re mostly based in LA, the Bay Area, NYC, Boston, and even abroad, but choose Chicago as the place to bring everyone together, which honestly makes so much sense.

For couples with family and friends spread across the country, Chicago can be a pretty perfect middle ground. It’s easy to get to from both coasts, there’s no shortage of incredible food, genuinely warm hospitality, beautiful architecture, lakefront views and green space, and an incredible community of creative vendors who are very good at what they do.

It also gives your guests so much more than a wedding to experience. A weekend here can mean drinks overlooking the city, dinner at a restaurant you’ll still be talking about years later, a morning along the lake, an architecture cruise, neighborhood exploring, and then, of course, the reason everyone came in the first place.

Planning from another city can add another layer of logistics, but it doesn’t have to mean flying in every other weekend or trying to figure out Chicago from afar. A big part of my job is being the person here who already knows the venues, the vendors, the neighborhoods, and all of the little logistical details that are much harder to navigate when you don’t live here such as traffic patterns and construction work.

So yes, I’m a Chicago wedding planner, but increasingly, I’m planning Chicago weddings for people who call somewhere else home. 🤍

I love a wedding that gives us permission to get wildly creative, but I also have such a soft spot for a grand, traditional ballroom wedding.

Give me an unexpected color palette, an unconventional floor plan, or a completely reimagined guest experience and I will happily run with it.

But give me crystal chandeliers, a beautiful gown, abundant flowers, candlelight, ch*****ne and dinner and dancing in a grand ballroom? I love that, too!

Nicole and Louis’s wedding at The Drake was romantic, formal, and timeless in a way that felt completely at home in this room.

No matter which direction we go in, my favorite weddings are always the ones where the choices feel intentional, the hospitality is generous, and the celebration genuinely reflects the people at the center of it.

It’s been a minute since I’ve shown my face around here, so hi, I’m Bristol. 🤍

I’m the planner behind Sustainable Soirées, and I’m someone who genuinely loves both a color-coded spreadsheet and a beautifully set table.

My brain is happiest somewhere between logistics and creativity: thinking three steps ahead, noticing when something would work better three feet to the left, obsessing over how a room feels when guests walk in, and making sure the hundreds of tiny decisions behind a wedding come together into something that feels effortless.

I love beautiful things such as fashion, interiors, flowers, travel, perhaps a pattern that catches my eye, and experiential details; but I’m always more interested in how those things make people feel because ultimately, the perfectly set table isn’t really the point. The people sitting around it are.

My job is to create the kind of calmness that lets my couples actually experience their wedding: to anticipate, problem-solve, protect the experience they’ve worked so hard to create, and quietly handle the things they shouldn’t have to think about (e.g. a raccoon sneaking in the side door of the venue). 🤭

When I’m not thinking about weddings, I’m probably traveling with my husband and daughter, outside in the garden, absorbed in a book, catching up on Bravo, or convincing myself that skincare totally counts as a hobby.

So, that’s me. A little logistics, a little beauty, a lot of thinking three steps ahead all in service of helping people be fully present for the really good stuff. 🤍

A little glimpse into last Saturday ✨

Seasonal florals (in tortoiseshell vases, no less! Obsessed), candlelight, incredible food and drinks, generous hospitality, and a setting that transported us somewhere far away.

Moody, romantic, wildly fun, and full of so much warmth. A room with no shortage of personality and a group that came ready to celebrate.

So much laughter. So much love. Such a vibe from beginning to end. ✨

If you’re someone who thinks, “YES. I care about sustainability, but I don’t want my wedding to look like we forgot to finish it.” then Sustainable Soirées is for you.

I created Sustainable Soirées because I wanted to prove that sustainability and a beautiful, thoughtfully produced wedding don’t have to exist at opposite ends of the spectrum. Nearly a decade later, I feel even more strongly about that.

Sustainability in weddings is so often associated with less: fewer flowers, fewer rentals, fewer custom details, less décor. While I’m always going to advocate for eliminating things that don’t meaningfully contribute to the celebration, I don’t believe the goal should simply be to use as little as possible.

A wedding is still a hospitality experience.

Your guests should feel welcomed, comfortable, and cared for. The room should feel polished and complete. The lighting, furnishings, bar, music, service, florals, and all of those seemingly small finishing touches work together to create an atmosphere people can actually feel.

That’s why I might encourage a couple to skip 150 favors no one needs, but recommend investing in beautiful rental chairs, proper lighting, or draping. I might question whether we really need another piece of custom signage while caring deeply about how the bar looks and functions for guests all evening.

To me, sustainability isn’t about stripping a wedding down. It’s about considering more. Where did this come from? Can we rent it? Who made it? Which farmer grew these flowers? Does it serve a purpose? Does it make our guests more comfortable? Does it make the environment more beautiful? What happens to it afterward? Does it deserve to be here?

You can care about local sourcing, reducing single-use plastics, composting, floral donation, responsible production, and also care tremendously about exceptional food, beautiful design, thoughtful service, and a room that feels completely finished.

Sustainability doesn’t mean your guests have to experience less. It means being more thoughtful about how we give them an extraordinary experience. 🥂

After a decade of planning weddings, people sometimes ask us if they all start to feel the same.

Our answer: not even close.

No matter how many timelines we build, floorplans we revise, or candles we place, every single wedding represents something entirely unique.

Each wedding involves a different family (most of the time!), a different love story, and a different room filled with people who have shaped two lives in completely different ways.

We never get tired of witnessing people choose each other and we never take for granted the trust our couples place in us 🤍

KIND WORDS FROM OUR COUPLES 🤍

We cannot say enough wonderful things about Bristol and Sustainable Soirées.

My (now!) husband and I are both graduate students in Los Angeles, and there is simply no way we could have planned our wedding from a distance without her. From day one, we knew we had made the right decision, and that feeling was confirmed again and again over the sixteen months we worked together. Bristol went absolutely above and beyond, keeping everything organized, calm, and on track throughout the entire process. What really set her apart was her attention to detail and her commitment to making our vision real, even in ways I thought might not be possible. For example, she created the most adorable café-style table setup for a private moment after our ceremony, something I had assumed we wouldn’t be able to pull off. Seeing it come together on the day was such a surprise that I nearly cried (again). Bristol also helped us seamlessly plan our mini-moon in Chicago after the wedding, which was such a gift during an already busy time. We are so grateful for her care, creativity, and dedication. Truly, we couldn’t recommend Bristol and Sustainable Soirées more highly! - E&S

We recently attended an incredible florist & planner event where we spent time discussing processes, collaboration, communication, and the many moving pieces involved in creating a seamless wedding experience.

One of the biggest takeaways was this: every florist, planner, and creative partner approaches their work differently. That inspired us to share more about how we approach the design process.

Some planning companies handle design entirely in-house, sourcing florals and products, creating installations, fabricating custom elements, or otherwise managing production internally. Our role looks a little different. At Sustainable Soirées, we see ourselves as translators, matchmakers, and curators.

Design starts with understanding YOU. We spend time getting to know our couples on a deeper level, identifying what feels meaningful, what matters most, which details deserve emphasis, and what simply is not a priority.

From there, we help shape the overall creative direction by refining ideas, identifying patterns in what you are naturally drawn to, and building clarity around how your wedding should ultimately feel.

Because we sit at the center of the planning process, we are uniquely positioned to curate the right creative team around that vision, often including your florist, stationer, rentals, lighting, production partners, and other creative vendors involved. Each partner is selected not only for their talent, but for how well their work complements the overall experience and whether their approach aligns with your investment.

Our job is ensuring every element works together seamlessly.

We stay informed on design trends, evolving guest expectations, new rental collections, and industry innovations so we can make styling recommendations and guide our clients with a wider perspective than any one vendor can provide alone.

Our oversight creates a cohesive experience where every detail feels intentional because every person involved is building toward the same shared vision.

One of my favorite parts of this job has nothing to do with flowers, timelines, or floorplans.

It’s watching people react to love.

A couple of weekends ago, I was standing at the back of the ceremony space listening to vows being exchanged and I caught an older married couple in the audience instinctively squeeze each other’s hands and exchange a quiet look that said “we remember this feeling”. Another older couple did something similar and put their heads together.

I love listening to a perfectly written speech that starts with laughter, circles back unexpectedly, and suddenly leaves the entire room wiping away tears, or watching parents hear someone speak so lovingly about the child they’ve spent a lifetime raising, their pride written all over their face before they even realize they’re crying.

These are the moments I find myself paying attention to during a wedding and it’s an honor to be entrusted with the job of carefully crafting an environment in which people can come together, connect, celebrate, and feel all of these feelings so freely.

Wedding season is here and our team has already teared up more times than we can count. We’re very much looking forward to the months ahead celebrating our couples and witnessing these unforgettable moments when love fills a room so deeply that every friend, parent, grandparent, and chosen family member feels it too.
