As you tidy up your garden this fall, don’t feel pressured to clear away every leaf. Those leaves are busy breaking down to enrich your soil, while also keeping plant roots insulated. They even create safe spaces for local wildlife to nest and rest. Leaving a layer of leaves behind is one of the simplest ways to care for your garden and the creatures that call it home.

Update on John from one of his daughters!

Wanted to do another little update on my dad❤️

First of all, he is such a fighter. And God has truly had His hand all over this illness/recovery. He is a God who works miracles, and we have witnessed one. My dad is alive and he’s working hard to beat this virus.

Now for the long road of recovery.
Last week, they removed the ventilator and did a tracheostomy procedure (tracheostomy is an opening surgically created through the neck into the trachea to allow air to fill the lungs). Several days later, after not being able to pass the swallow test with the feeding tube down his nose/throat, he had a PEG procedure (Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy, a feeding tube inserted into the stomach)
After several difficult days of delirium last week (which was very hard on my dad AND mom), he finally had some good days.

He was brought outside multiple times in his special chair, has been breathing almost fully on his own, started trying to talk…and just today, graduated from the ICU!! Praise God!

Once the trach is removed, they plan to move him to an acute rehab facility where he will work hard to gain back all he has lost. It will be a long road of therapy to learn how to live independently again.

We have SO much to praise and thank God for on this day. He truly has been working miracles in my dad’s life. And it is one of the most beautiful things to witness. We serve a good God.

You have all been playing such a HUGE part in this incredibly difficult season of our lives. I don’t think there are enough words to express how truly thankful we are for this community that God has blessed us with.

We continue to ask for your prayers as we now walk this long road of recovery.

“Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are Mine.
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you.
When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.
For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior. Since you are precious and honored in My sight, and because I love you.”
Isaiah 43:1b-4a
