Semper Virens Flowers Designer Mary B. Hayes creates spirited florals for everyday, weddings and events. Lots of seasonal flowers and unusual textures. We do workshops too!

Setting the scene for M to ask S for her hand in marriage last weekend! Beautiful backdrop in the Secret Garden at New England Botanical Garden. The groom-to-be requested vibrant, autumn flowers in colors that harmonized with the backdrop, but also popped out from it. Had to include lilies, a favorite flower of hers.

Shout-out to Three Fables Flower Farm for the amazing dahlias and Japanese anemones. Gracias to Baystate Farm Direct Flowers for the fab Dark Xpression roses and lilies. I also included some tweedia and strawflowers, national flowers of Armenia, as a nod to her heritage. So happy with how it turned out!

Embellished Pumpkin Workshop time again! Please join us at New England Botanic Garden in Boylston, MA, on Thursday, October 22, 6-8 PM. All supplies provided (bring your own clippers if you have your favorite ones). Lots of goodies available to use: fresh flowers, foliage, succulents, berries, moss, air plants, and more. Some of my brides wanted VERY colorful bouquets this season, which took me out of my comfort zone (I tend towards muted colors and monochromatic schemes). Thank you, couples, for challenging me. It’s opened up a whole new world of color combos for me!...

Some behind the-scene pics from K & J’s July wedding at New England Botanical Garden at Tower Hill in Boylston MA. Amazing backdrops in every direction! This creative couple wanted lots of texture, color and unusual botanical elements (ex: garlic scapes, poppy seed pods, berries). Ginkgo leaves (a motif for the couple) from my dwarf Gingko tree were included in every bouquet and arrangement.

We mixed up the centerpieces: half were compotes, and half were Ikebana-style dish arrangements. The colored linens amplified the floral colors and visual interest. All blended beautifully inside the great jungle of the Limonaia! Wonderful day for a delightful, free-thinking couple!

Looking back at Katrina and Jon’s beautiful wedding in June at the The Groton Inn in Groton, MA. The couple had so many thoughtful, personal details at every step, and they were a joy to work with. So happy for them and I wish them many years of adventures and love!

The Groton Inn has so many perfect backdrops, and their staff is top-notch. Photographer Riany of RH Creative captured so many special moments and details. Thank you to Priscilla Tenzar and my husband for the setup assistance. Kudos also to Bay State Farm Direct Flowers, Kelley Wholesale Florist , RJ Carbone Wholesale Floral, and to the the owner of Monhegan Store , who let me pick some of her gorgeous budding lilacs for the bride and bridesmaid’s bouquets!

It’s been a rough summer in my neck of the woods (eastern MA). We’re still in a severe drought, and watering in my town is limited to hand-watering only. Needless to say, the cutting garden suffered!

But the dahlias are starting to bloom, so I’ve got that going for me! Which is niiice!

What a gorgeous day and joyful wedding for Katrina and Jon! Here are some behind-the-scenes looks at the wedding setup earlier in June. The Groton Inn has so many beautiful spaces, inside and outside, and a top-notch event staff. And a breathtaking backdrop!

I loved the couple’s palette of blues, purples, lavender and ivory, and we were blessed to score lilacs, baptisia and lupines (a nod to the Texas bluebonnet, the state flower of Jon’s home state).

Couldn’t have done it without the help of my engineer husband and assistant Cilla of Priscilla Tenzar . Many thanks to the flower suppliers too: RJ Carbone Wholesale Floral , Direct Flowers of Boston , Kelley Wholesale Florist and Baystate Farm Direct Flowers .
