A very special dahlia bloom surprised me this week! This is one of the dahlias I planted last summer when we decided to start the farm. It was kind of an experiment for me to see how to store them over winter. Life threw us a curveball in the fall and I ran out of motivation to do anything for a while. I kind of forgot about them and back in May I just put them outside in the same pots in hopes they would come back. These are the same dahlia blooms that I brought to my Opa when he was in the hospital. He loved flowers. Opa was so happy when I gave them to him and then they sat on his table at home as we said our last goodbyes to him. He was a sweet man, the kind that would bring his wife flowers home each time he went grocery shopping, the kind that knew it was the little things in life that mean the most, like the joy flowers can bring. When this one opened up the other day, it brought me right back. I told my mom these are my โOpa dahlias.โ These blooms will hold a special place in my garden at home at the lake, where he loved to come visit us. ๐ซถ๐ผ Sometimes, theyโre not just flowers. ๐ธ๐ค
