Bach concert comes to Chatham March 23rd
Concerts On Main presents a special Bach Concert on March 23rd at 3pm
with the Northeast Oratorio Society (a touring oratorio ensemble from Northeast Philadelphia) with conductor Martin Knoblach and the Oratorio Society of Philadelphia. The concert will include Cantatas BWV 200, 161, 173 and 184. The concert will be held in the Ogden auditorium, the concert is free to all, a love offering will be accepted.
A project 2 years in the making- conductor Martin Knoblach and Director of Music John Calkins who have collaborated on many occasions- mused one summer morning over the phone about the prospect of bringing this special programming to Ogden. "This will be the Northeast Oratorio Society 22nd program, usually encompassing 4-5 works each concert. We have performed over half of the over 200 cantatas." Knoblach Each cantata has a liturgical theme based on scripture- with featured soloists, choruses and recitatives. Bach is a cornerstone for western classical music, as a prolific and influential composer and performer. "Come, as it will make you better." says Maestro Knoblach.
This will be in part with the Mostly Mozart Series at Ogden: highlighting sacred selections by composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart paired with other exciting musical genres including popular, world music, rock, gospel and jazz. "The Mostly Mozart Series seemed to happen on its own," explained Director of Music John Calkins. " As the mosaic came into focus while programming music for each week- I realized we were two to three pieces shy of making it complete." The series will also feature a Clarinet soloist on Sunday March 30th with Paul Reade's Victorian Garden Kitchen Suite.
Bring friends and family- all are welcome. "Come, as it will make you better." says Maestro Knoblach.
