What is happening on the farm this week?
Our second plot (pictured) is officially being fenced in. After losing didiscus, nigella, scabiosa, echinops, some lisianthus, and eucalyptus to the deer - we are done utilizing the methods that used to work (Maggie’s hair, the boys’ haircut hair, coyote urine I get from Scheels, deer spray, Irish Spring soap). I am extremely blessed to be married to someone that can simply install the fence. The plants are being replaced, but the financial burden and time investment are still stinging.
We planted 10 viburnum, 20 hydrangeas, and 3 baptisia plants. We have over 200 dahlias that have popped through the ground and early this week we plant our second installment.
This is our fifth and final week of spring subscriptions. The crazy spring weather made some things bloom on shorter stems than I’d like, but we are rolling with that punch and some of you will pick up jars this week instead of wraps. I don’t want the shorter stems getting smushed in wraps 😉 This week will feature strawberry mint that you can plop out of your flowers and into a mojito if you’d like. We don’t spray our mint with anything 🫶🏼🐝 We may have some “To Go Cups” available on Thursday. Stay tuned.
We have a few special orders scheduled between now and the opening Westside Market on June 14th. The Westside Market is your absolute last chance to enjoy peonies until they come back around next spring! They are holding steady in our cooler.
