Wild Recluse is a multidisciplinary artist working across collage, perfumery, and film.
“For years, I have explored ways to bridge these mediums together to create multisensory, immersive experiences that tell stories and express emotions rooted in longing, love, human rebirth, and liberation.”
What brings her to Stylus?
“For this engagement, I will be presenting my 2018 EP, Unruly, a project written and performed through the persona of Mara Robbin, a character I developed to explore the shadowy, emotionally complex parts of myself.”
“Following the listening experience, I will play a selection of songs that inspired the creation of the EP, alongside music that complements its atmosphere. The set will move through soul, indie soul, funk, 1980s punk, trip-hop, and opera, creating a sonic landscape that expands upon the world of Unruly.”
What’s inspiring her right now?
“Lately, I have been exploring 1990s indie soul and revisiting the textures, rhythms, and emotional qualities of that era’s music.”
What’s she bringing to the lounge?
“The inspiration for this experience comes from the development of Mara Robbin, a character I created in 2016. Initially, Mara existed through short stories and short film treatments. When Jeremy, the producer I collaborated with on Unruly, began sending me experimental beats, I found a new medium through which to give voice to my heartache, anger, and inner world.”
“Jeremy and I shared a special creative connection. I would wake from vivid dreams and share them with him, and through music, we began constructing a world of our own. Unruly emerged from that exchange, becoming both an artistic project and a vessel for emotions that I was still learning how to understand.”
“The selections I am bringing to Stylus reflect that world. They are rooted in the music that shaped Unruly, the sounds that continue to inspire me, and the emotional landscapes that have stayed with me throughout the years.”
