They say you should never meet your heroes, but Dan was the living exception to that rule.
Losing him hits home in a way that’s hard to put into words. Early in my career, when I was still finding my footing and honestly didn’t have much to offer the scene, Dan didn’t care about “clout” or what I could do for him. He just offered his friendship.
I’ll never forget the nights he’d come through to play in Boston and crash at my place in the North End. Here was this absolute legend, someone I looked up to, just hanging out in my apartment like we’d known each other forever.
He was easily one of the most humble, genuine people I’ve ever met in this industry. Even as the years passed and life got loud, even when I’d fall out of contact or get buried in work, Dan was the one who made sure we stayed connected always trying to convince me to go to burning man that year lol. He never let the distance or the time change the friendship.
The electronic music community didn’t just lose a legendary DJ today; it lost a true pillar of kindness and a soul that stayed pure in a tough business. Rest easy, Dan. The booths will feel a lot emptier without your light, but I’m so grateful for the time we had. 🕊️🖤
