The symptoms are undeniable. The Charlotte region adds roughly 150+ new residents every single day. Drivers already lose 64 hours a year to congestion and I-77 South ranks among the most congested corridors in the country for both commuters and freight.
Anyone idling on Tyvola at 5:00 p.m. (or 2:00 p.m. on a Saturday) understands: doing nothing is not an option. Yet Charlotte’s chronic mistake is building for the city we were a decade ago, not the metropolis exploding around us.
In a region projected to reach 4.6 million people by 2050, incrementalism isn’t caution, it’s pre-packaged failure.
