We often will get asked about how the rise of online shopping has impacted us over the last 12 years. It’s a fair question and one we love answering…and reminiscing on

There was a time when shopping wasn’t just buying things. It was being somewhere.

For those born before the 2000s, You’d walk in with your parents or grandparents. The air had a certain smell, the lights felt warm, the racks towered above you. You’d run your hands across fabrics, maybe hide behind racks 😂. You’d listen to conversations, pick up a few lessons about life, and the world.

Then you’d leave, maybe stop for lunch, maybe just head home, but the memory of that place stayed.

Online can make it easier, but it can’t make it mean more. You may get the “thing” but you don’t get the experience. And the experience is often bigger than what you are shopping for…especially when you look back on it years later.

For things that matter, we wish “online shopping” the best of luck. We will bet on the power of a great in-store experience any day of the week🙌

The Power of Brand (and why I’m not really a “Fashion Guy”)

As some of you may know, I’m a former finance guy (shout out to my Bank of America, NTT, and Sia days). Which means... my path to starting and leading a clothing brand is a bit odd. Most people don’t go from finance to fashion, I assure you.

But here’s the thing... I’m not actually a “fashion guy” (that’s really more Filipe Ho). I won’t pretend I was a snazzy dresser all my life... I definitely wasn’t.

And that alternate path to get where I am today has turned into a huge advantage... because I’ve lived the other side.

When I started my finance career, I was just like many other young professionals entering the workforce, I wore what everyone else was wearing. Safe. Easy. Blend in.

I was more concerned with fitting in than realizing there was a simple, effective way to stand out and differentiate myself.

That changed thanks to my first manager at BofA, Jim Vilsack. Jim was the quintessential mentor... loved his job, everyone loved him, and he made it all look easy. I wanted to be Jim (still do!).

I’ll never forget grabbing coffee one day. I commented that he always dressed well, even though our office was more business casual than buttoned up.

What he said next never left me:
"I always want to be ready in case one of my leaders calls on me to present or attend a meeting, because you never know when the opportunity might come."

So simple.

By being ready, you make it easy for leadership to call on you because you visually represent the standard at all times.

Looking back, I think about the compliments, opportunities, and doors that opened because of that mindset:
- Meetings with senior leaders
- Promotions
- Consulting opportunities
- Speaking engagements

That experience showed me firsthand the power of branding and what it can do for a person’s confidence and career trajectory.

That’s what ultimately pushed me to start a clothing brand dedicated to doing that very thing for others... helping people take control of their personal brand and be ready when opportunity calls.

// The Power of Customer Service //

We don’t get everything right… far from it… and guess what? No one does.

Sure, I’d sleep a lot better if we did, but that’s not how it works. The real secret to great customer service isn’t about being perfect… it’s about what you do when you’re not.

Sometimes even when you do everything right upfront, things happen.

Not long ago, we needed to make some changes to a suit that could only be done by the factory. And of course, Murphy’s Law kicked in… the return shipping was delayed.

It was the week of the wedding...I was waking up at 2 in the morning to refresh the tracking on this thing… obsessing over whether it would arrive on time.

We had a drop-dead time it needed to show up, and that moment was coming quick.

But here’s the thing: we told the customer that no matter what, even if it came late, we would personally drive it to him… a couple hours away.

That willingness to persevere and go above and beyond is what makes us who we are.

We can’t always be perfect… but I guarantee we will do whatever we need to do to make it perfect in the end. Drive it...overnight ship...remake it...we will do whatever we need to do for our clients.

And honestly… that’s why we continue to maintain all 5-star reviews on Google (knocking on all the wood as I say this).

I can assure you we haven’t always delivered a perfect 5-star experience… but our genuine desire to do whatever it takes for the customer is why 5 stars is all we have.

In fact, some of our biggest and most loyal customers today are repeat customers BECAUSE we messed up at some point. They appreciated the extra effort, the ownership, and the desire to get it right… and they’ve continued to support us ever since.

At the end of the day, how you treat your customers will always matter more than whether you get it perfect on the first try.

We didn’t know much about starting a business…
but we knew we loved it.
