Fall is the perfect time to try something new 💃 New Dancer Night: Tango for Absolute Beginners is this Wednesday!

New Dancer Night is back on September 23 — a beginner-friendly intro to tango designed for people who have never set foot on a dance floor. No partner or experience needed!

Meet OLIVIA!! Olivia Tegner is our newest staff member, responsible for managing the NEW Long Room Coffee Club ☕️🍂🤎✨

Olivia grew up immersed in classical ballet, dedicating much of her life to the discipline, artistry, and community that come with dance. Her passion for ballet brought her to Charlotte through Charlotte Ballet, making the city an important part of both her personal and professional journey.

In 2021, Olivia began her career in coffee, quickly finding a new creative and community-driven outlet.

"I wanted a job where I got to talk to people, and I also really love coffee," she shared. "I stuck with it over the years because it's created a community for me, and I've met so many amazing folks!"

With five years of experience as a barista, she has developed a deep appreciation for the craft and culture of coffee. Her experience extends beyond the bar, including management and roasting, giving her a well-rounded perspective on every part of the coffee process.

☕️ Her favorite drink: "My favorite drink to make is a cappuccino; making perfect milk texture is addicting. However, my favorite drink to enjoy would be a latte with a fun flavor! I'm looking forward to the Banana Bread we will have at TLR for the fall!"

🤎 What she's most excited about: "Being surrounded by people in the dance community! Combining two of my favorite things, coffee and dance, I feel like I will be surrounded by so many like-minded people.

Come meet her (and try a cup!) at our grand opening on Monday, September 14! The Long Room Coffee Club will be open 7:00 am – 2:00 pm, Monday through Friday at The Long Room in Plaza Midwood.

Great spaces create great culture 🤍

The Arts & Science Council's Venue Access Grant is about more than free venue rental. It’s about building a more vibrant, active cultural landscape across Mecklenburg County by ensuring creatives have access to the spaces they need.

Not sure if the Venue Access Grant is for you? Here's the quick version:

Creative Individuals — sole proprietors or LLCs with 3+ years of income history in your artistic practice, based in or serving Mecklenburg County, with a professional portfolio to show for it.

Nonprofits — 501(c)(3) organizations with an arts/science/history/heritage mission, 2+ years operating, budget under $1.25M, primarily serving Mecklenburg County.

Two paths, same goal: getting Charlotte creatives and organizations into the spaces they need. If your work serves the community, this was built with you in mind.

Our September events lineup is here! 🍁

If the team at The Long Room has been sounding a little extra perky lately — maybe even a bit manic — it's because we are all hyped up on coffee! That's right: The Long Room Coffee Club is launching this month, and we could not be more excited. Come get your first taste at the Tango Brunch soft opening on Sept 6, and join us for Grand Opening on Sept 14!

And that's not all: the 2027 Venue Access Grant is now LIVE! Applications are open through Sept 22. If you are an artist or creative planning an event in 2027, you should not be paying for a venue!

As for the events this month, we are covering so many genres of music, poetry, and art, we don't even know where to start. Guaranteed, there is something here for you!

Q***r Tango Night is TOMORROW — Saturday, August 22 at The Long Room, hosted with and 💃

Two ways to join us:
🌅 Q***r Tango Social from 5–7 PM
🌙 Q***r Tango After Dark from 8–10 PM

Both include professional instruction, a multi-course tasting served between moments of instruction, and a room full of people who are glad you came. Open to the q***r community and allies, this is a space where everyone can feel welcome, connected, and confident on the dance floor. We will teach lead and follow equally to everyone!
