Justin has been hard at work giving our historic chapel porch some much-needed TLC! Armed with a scraper, a respirator, and a whole lot of determination, he tackled the peeling paint and brought those beautiful red shingles back to life! And let me tell you… scraping and painting all those individual shingles is no small task!
A huge shoutout to The Home Depot! We took in a tiny piece of chipped paint, and they were able to color-match it beautifully! They also gave us guidance of using enamel for this project. We wanted to preserve the chapel’s historic charm, and they helped us do just that!
One of the things we love most about our chapel, is its beautiful Carpenter Gothic architecture. From the steeply pitched roof and decorative white woodwork to the charming fish-scale shingles that adorn the front porch gable, every detail tells a story. These distinctive, scalloped shingles are a beautiful example of the craftsmanship and architectural character that make this little chapel so special.
One thing we’ve learned about caring for a 150-year-old chapel is that the work is NEVER really done! But every little improvement is a labor of love. We’re not just maintaining an old building. We’re preserving a piece of history. A place that has stood for generations, witnessed countless prayers, and continues to welcome new beginnings.
We feel incredibly blessed that God has entrusted us with caring for this beautiful little chapel, and we’re committed to honoring its history while preparing it for all He has planned for its future.
