In 2004 the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Freight House, at the jct. of Auburn and Brookdale was listed on the National Register of Historic places. Completed and first occupied in 1904, the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Freight House calls attention to the “Golden Age of Railroading” in Iowa and its effects on the commercial growth of Chariton as a southern Iowa wholesale and distribution center.

The Freight House possesses an interior space of over 3,700 square feet, and reflects Chariton’s importance as a division point for the CB&Q and the city’s emerging role as a distribution center.We have the Lucas County Arts Council to thank for stepping in when no other organization would to save the then-endangered Freight House and marshaling the resources needed to restore it and return it to active life. Under Arts Council ownership, it serves primarily as a public venue for events ranging from meetings and reunions to weddings and receptions.

Hey All 👋🏼 We’re sorry to share that we’ve made the decision to cancel our football squares fundraiser for the Iowa vs Iowa State game. Due to low participation we aren’t able to move forward. We sincerely appreciate the support from those who reached out about getting a square. Everyone has been contacted that had reached out and we will be refunding those who had paid.

We’ll be thinking of other fundraiser ideas in the future to continue to support the exterior project!

Are you ready for some football!? 🏈

Support the Freight House with our Football Squares Fundraiser for the Iowa vs. Iowa State game. Here’s how it works:

1. Buy a Square: Purchase a square for just $10. Each square position will be randomly selected for you.
2. Win Big: If your square matches the score at the end of a quarter, you win! Money will be awarded for the first, second, third, and final scores. If we are able to sell all 100 squares, the payout per quarter will be $100. If we do not sell all 100 squares, payout will be adjusted based on participation.
3. Help Our Cause: The money the Freight House raises will go to support our exterior project.

How to Enter:
• Message CB&Q Freight House on Facebook or Instagram to buy your square(s).
• Payments can be made via cash, check, Venmo {}

Deadline: All squares must be purchased by Friday September 6th at 12:00PM. The game board will be shared with participants before the big game.

Construction has begun! The 120 year old truss are carefully being replaced. 🙌🏻

Today is the final day to order the Nothing Bundt Cake bundtlets. Proceeds from the fundraiser will help us complete this exterior project. Send us a message to get your orders by the end of the day. 🍰

CB&Q Freight House is partnering with Nothing Bundt Cakes to do a fundraiser selling individual bundlet cakes just in time for Father’s Day.

Each individual bundlet cake is $6 and available flavors include: Chocolate Chocolate Chip, Confetti, Red Velvet, Lemon, White Chocolate Raspberry & Gluten Free - Chocolate Chip Cookie.

We’ll be taking orders from now until May 31st. To place an order, send a message to CB&Q Freight House on Facebook or Instagram and Venmo the amount owed to . No Venmo? No problem! We’ll work out an alternative payment option for you. Pickup will be at the Freight House on June 14th from 4:00-6:00PM.

The money from the fundraiser will go to the exterior improvement project. With only $5000 remaining to raise, we would really love your support!
