We are honored to manage this year’s tournament and continue the legacy of Mr. Dortch. Reposted • The National Black College Alumni Hall of Fame Foundation has made a significant and heartfelt decision to rename our esteemed HBCU Invitational Golf Classic in honor of our late founder, Thomas W. Dortch, Jr. This cherished event will now be known as The Thomas W. Dortch, Jr. HBCU Golf Classic.

Thomas W. Dortch, Jr. was a true pioneer, whose passion and dedication transformed the landscape of HBCUs.

His vision for fostering educational opportunities, mentorship, and career development for HBCU students have left an indelible mark on the community. To preserve his legacy, we have chosen to rename our golf classic in his honor, ensuring that his impact continues to inspire and uplift generations to come.

We extend our deepest condolences to the family of Mr. Thomas Dortch, Jr.
Mr. Dortch was a tireless advocate for HBCU culture, and specifically increasing diversity within black collegiate golf.
For nearly 40 years, Mr. Dortch and the National Black College Alumni Hall of Fame provided opportunities for HBCU Golf programs to compete in an NCAA sanctioned tournament through the HBCU Golf Invitational. This tournament provided critical financial support for HBCU golf programs. His commitment helped many student athletes receive important skill development and career opportunities relating to golf and their varied future endeavors.

Mr. Dortch’s support extended further, as he provided the opportunity for TeeVents to partner with and enhance the success of this golf tournament through our golf management expertise. For this and much more, we are forever grateful. We will continue working diligently  to honor Thomas Dortch’s legacy by ensuring that this annual event continues providing much needed opportunities for the HBCU student athletes. We know he’d have it no other way.

The 36th Annual HBCU Golf Invitational is hosted by National Black College Alumni Hall of Fame and sponsored by Farmers Insurance .
