Tears, sobbing, and devastation... That was my reaction when I pitched my idea for the first time in 2024. I was completely falling over my words and got stuck like a deer in the headlights, trying to remember my one-minute pitch. After that, I vowed I would NEVER do that again...

Fast forward to 2026, more mature and more resolved in my mission to bring farm, food, and hospitality together. Settled in my mission to build connections, gathering spaces, and bring a shared responsibility for caring for one another back to the forefront of our communities through food, I signed up for the Start1Up Md roadshow. And guess what.... I WON FIRST PLACE!

Thank you to every mentor from CatalystQ and Shelly Gross Wade, Queen Anne's County Economic Development, Nancy LaJoice, Scott Hines, Upper Shore Regional Council, Startup Maryland ,Washington College, and my fellow pitchers. Most importantly, to my team and everyone who has heard my vision and believed in it with me. The Lord is faithful, and my heart is full!

Grateful is the word.... As a small business owner who loves its community, I always want to be learning and growing. CatalystQ was the vehicle to guide, teach, empower and lead me towards heartfelt hospitality and more! Thank you to all the mentors, commissioners and peers who took this journey with me! Here we GROW!! ✨

Last night, the Queen Anne’s County Commissioners proudly recognized the inaugural graduating class of CatalystQ — The Catalyst for Minority Business Excellence in Queen Anne’s County 👏

This 6-month accelerator, led by Queen Anne’s County Economic & Tourism Development, provided local entrepreneurs with hands-on training, mentorship, and access to critical resources to help start and grow their businesses. Through partnerships with Chesapeake College, the Small Business Development Center, and Bay Crossing Consulting, participants gained valuable tools to overcome barriers and build a strong foundation for success.

As a chef and first generation farmer, I am still grateful for the opportunity to speak about honoring my family's heritage of hospitality and reviving our heritage of farming. To last year, being a participant to this year of closing out the program is a true privilege and honor! Here we Grow!!!

Guided by a lifelong mission to foster community through hospitality and meaningful relationships, Alicia blends her love of food, service, and cultivation to create experiences that nourish both body and spirit.

Through her catering work and her growing farm, she is committed to building spaces where people feel welcomed, connected, and cared for. Alicia strives to leave a lasting legacy of friendship, leadership, and purpose for her family and the generations to come.

In this session, “Seed Saving & Strong Roots: Reviving a Heritage” Alicia Boyd shares her inspiring journey as a first-generation woman farmer. From the roots of her heritage to the defining moments that shaped her path, Alicia explores how culture, resilience, and community led her to the land. She reflects on the lessons learned through farming, entrepreneurship, and hospitality, and how these experiences fuel her desire to build a meaningful legacy. Attendees will gain insight into the power of honoring where you come from while courageously cultivating the future you want to leave behind.

With heavy hearts, we share that Humble Hearts Catering & Events will be closed for the month of January as our family takes time to mourn the loss of our beloved father and care for one another.

This season has reminded us how precious family, faith, and community truly are. We are so grateful for your continued love, prayers, and understanding during this time.
