Our production of Hadestown takes place in a forest environment during some "hard times" (a depression), so everything we use to tell the story is re-used and upcycled from life in the mines and mills. Take a closer look at some of the detailed props sourced and built by our properties master and set dresser, !

1. Orpheus's path into the Underworld is illuminated by what almost appears to be a candle or fireflies in a mason jar!
2. The old timey microphone looks legit, but it's actually built out of objects from a hardware store!
3. Hermes walks with a staff bearing a snake, just as he did in the myths!
4. When Hermes blows the train whistle, it's an actual 5-tone whistle!
5. This crate full of cups is real and has been around the block (and farm) for a long time!
6-7. Ashley picked these large crates up from an estate sale - before that they had been used for farm storage for decades!
8. When the Workers Chorus needs a place to sit, these rope spools come in awfully handy, as do a variety of crates and boards.

You can see these props in action in Hadestown Teen Edition on CenterPoint Theatre's Mountain American Main Stage through Wednesday! Performances are selling out, so get tickets now at cptutah.org or via the link in our bio!

Good design starts with big ideas, but great design nails it in the details! Check out some of the little flourishes and easter eggs in Lauri Baird's brilliant costumes for Hadestown Teen Edition!

1. Persephone ate 6 pomegranate seeds that that determined she would spend 6 months each year in the Underworld - so her dress has a beautiful pomegranate brooch!
2. Hades is described by Hermes as a "rattlesnake" and has one climbing up his back!
3. Fate 1 is Clotho, the Spinner of the thread of a man's life, and carries a bundle of threads at her side!
4. Fate 3 is Lachesis, the Alotter, who measures the thread, and her costume features actual measuring tapes!
5. Fate 2 is Atropos, the Inflexible, who cuts the thread when it's his time to die, so these sparkly accents are little pairs of scissors!
6. Hades calls Eurydice a "little songbird," and she has a patch of one near her knee!
7. "Orpheus was a poor boy," so poor that his vest is recycled from a potato sack!
8. Hermes bears the insignia of his staff, the caduceus, near his shoulder!
9. Hermes is also, "a man with feathers on his feet," and his sparkle!

You can see these costumes in action in Hadestown Teen Edition on CenterPoint Theatre's Mountain American Main Stage through 11! Performances are selling out, so get tickets now at cptutah.org or via the link in our bio!

"Three old women...always singin' in the back of your mind. Everybody meet the Fates!"

In Greek mythology, the Fates were immortal sisters who controlled human destiny. One Fate would spin a thread for each person who lived, another would measure the thread, and the third would cut it when it was that person's time to die. They were unavoidable and unyielding. Yikes!

In Hadestown, the Fates give voice to each character's doubts and fears, in some cases driving them to their destinies. They are as vicious as their harmonies are delicious!

"Eurydice was a hungry young girl, a runaway from everywhere she'd ever been."

We asked the woman worth descending to hell and back again what makes Eurydice so special:

- "This story is really defined by hope, and the dichotomy that it serves inside of both the story and in between the relationships within. What makes Eurydice so special is that she herself grows to become that manifestation of light and hope. She drives Orpheus to always see the world as it could be, and even when there are challenges and doubts, she remains steadfast as that light forever. To me, she is why we tell this story again and again."

Kaylee Call - "Playing Eurydice has been a dream! I love the confidence that she has in herself and the surety of who she is, but because she’s been through so much in her life, she never truly lets people in. When Orpheus comes to her, she begins to believe the future he’s promised them and she finally lets herself truly dream of a life where she can be free with the man she loves."

"There was man with feathers on his feet who could help you to your final destination - Mr. Hermes!"

We asked our and immortal guide what makes Hermes special:

- "Hermes is a very interesting character, not only does he have the responsibility of telling the story he also takes part in it. Hermes offers such a brilliant challenge on the actor's part as the actor must balance these two aspects of Hermes character and all the while convey his morals and truths that he has observed as a god watching this story being told time and time again. I’m super excited, humbled, and honored to be given an opportunity to portray him and hope y'all come see it."

- "This is one of my dream roles! Hermes is such a strong yet complex character. There are so many ways to play him/her and still tell the story in a different way. He is smooth talking, quick-witted who guides the audience with charm, and wisdom. He introduces the story to everybody…telling them in the beginning it is a tragedy. “But we sing it anyway”. I’m super excited to play him in front of an audience!"
