Here in our little corner of Long Island, the cherry blossoms are putting on a dreamy show—but I have to say, this magnolia stellata has completely stolen my heart. She’s soft, graceful, and quietly dazzling.⁣

Curious Flowers began when I moved into a home with a spacious yard and fell in love with gardening. Some flowers take me back to those early days—the ones I still grow purely for the joy of it, not just for cutting and selling. Bearded irises are one of them.⁣
⁣
I planted my first iris in the fall of 2020 and never looked back. But I have to admit—I neglected them for years. Last week, I finally tackled the iris bed and discovered the poor rhizomes strangled by a tangled mess of spiderwort and weeds. I’ve never felt more sorry for plants. They were literally suffocating.⁣
⁣
It was time for a fresh start. The rhizomes desperately needed dividing, and look how massive just one root was! Now, I have more than 50 new iris starts, spread throughout the garden. I probably won’t see them bloom this year, but gardening is always about patience and investing in the future. Waiting is part of the journey. And when they do bloom again, it will be all the more rewarding. 💜✨
