We are surrounded by woods, and finding sunny spots for flowers is always a bit of a challenge since most prefers full sun. But every now and then, we find flowers that are perfectly happy tucked into the shadier corners of the garden. And columbines are one of them ✨
I used to think some columbines with larger flower heads looked a little too alien-like for me🫣, but then I discovered the Barlow varieties. Their blooms are mostly double, like tiny fluffy pompoms with star-shaped petals. I started them from seed a few seasons ago, and they come back strong every year.
Every spring, I find myself stopping to admire them gently nodding atop their long stems in the flower beds. They feel like whimsical woodland fairies, perfectly at home in our garden🧚🏻♂️
