YE OLDE SECRETARY- Part 2:
I kerp hoping to find buried treasure here, or hidden compartments at least! Today, I did find a treasure. While she was nearly dismantled, I discovered a piece of paper, stuck inside the walls partly hidden by a drawer rail. Laundry stub? Interesting....Google, tell me more! Read the attached post. The stub is from the UK, 1899- 1905ish. Ranch founders had an ancestral home in UK. Everything has a story. You just have to look closeley.

YE OLDE SECRETARY- Part1 :
When we purchased this place a few years ago, we "inherited" s number of things. There was green s**g carpet, 3 sets of dishware, 2 gutted cars and this lovely little secretary. She has just been saved ftom 18 mos of purgatory in the pole barn. She's been cleaned, oiled polished and returned to our bedroom. (See before & after...)

We are suckers for beautiful sunsets. This was just before last night's storm.

While trimming some branches along one of our trails, came across this. Brilliantly camouflaged to resemble a burl.....do you know what this is?....
A hummingbird nest! Cut before I saw the nest, or I would not have disturbed it. Fragments of egg inside lead me to believe the fledgelings were already gone.
Have you ever come across one of these?

All this rain and mild weather is really making our plants happy! After amending the soil, planting some wildflower seeds and perennials, "Our Lady of Stoneleigh" feels a little less shabby. But she is always chic!

This afternoon, we hosted Sally Deahl Hornaday, Tim Hornaday and their families. These two had not visited in some years, but shared many stories and recollections of this old ranch, a part of their youth going back to the '70s. Sally loaned us a scrapbook chock full of wonderful photos and clippings, dating back to the 1890s. We feel so lucky to have spent some time with these sweet people! Merry Christmas .
