UBI SUNT (such a fitting reflection for the season—in memory of all my passed family members and loved ones). 😔

Ubi sunt is a rhetorical question taken from the Latin Ubi sunt qui ante nos fuerunt?, meaning "Where are those who were before us?" Ubi nunc...? is a common variant. Sometimes interpreted to indicate nostalgia, the ubi sunt motif is actually a meditation on mortality and life's transience.

Hi, local Fleurs de Temps followers.

Thomas Joseph has loads of floral supplies to sell at reasonable prices if anyone might be interested. Or you may know of someone who is looking for supplies. Floral wire, Oasis glue, ribbon by the loads, floral foam and floral cages. Bouquet holders, corsage supplies, floral tape, decorative wire—you name it, you or someone you know will find it. Just let Thomas Joseph know. Leave a message on this site, and he will respond. In the meantime have a great weekend. BTW, he is loving being back in the college classroom. He has a great group of students this semester. 😃👍

Fleurs de Temps is closing its doors. Time to move on. Returning to my college as Emeritus Professor, and really looking forward to it. That and other professional involvements prompted my decision. It’s been great serving my local clients.

I would highly recommend Roots in Bloom in Marion. Cassie Hammarmeister and her team create lovely designs, provide excellent service, and Cassie will treat you like gold.

Thanks for your support over the years; it has meant the world to me. Best!

Fleurs de Printemps

“A Thomas Joseph floral design is a breath of fresh air that will add grace and charm to any occasion.”

Beautiful flowers and all kinds of leaves (as I used to refer to them growing up) have always been a part of my life. I remember as a kid my mom having me go out into our backyard and water the roses in her garden--pink, white and red, some of them droopy. I liked the droopy ones because they seemed so natural and graceful. I was embarrassed, though, to express my love and passion too openly for these gems of mother nature because I was a boy, and boys were not supposed to dapple in flora--football, baseball, basketball, and running wild on weekends were their standard pastimes. Not mine.

As I matured I was never without flowers in my life--sharing my love for them by giving them as gifts to my mom, aunts and girlfriends; however, education became my primary focus. I wanted to be a college English professor, and I worked hard to achieve that goal, and I cherish my over 40-year career as teacher and college instructor. But now with retirement close on the horizon, I’m preparing for a new career, and that is how Fleurs de Temps (flowering time) was born. Thanks to my wife, Gina, who will end up being the brains behind this small operation, I have a design studio on the lower level of her Harlequin Home Consignment and Antique Shop in Cedar Rapids’ Czech Village.

Located at 76 16th Avenue SW, there, I create designs for all occasions, give demonstrations and workshops upstairs, and on Saturdays during the summer months under a red and white canopy outside sell poppies, sweetpeas, Antigua carnations, garden roses, variegated foilages and as many other blooms as I can get my hands on. How fun does all of that sound? Voila!!
