Today is World Autism Awareness Day🧩
We wanted to thank you all for supporting our special needs family business!
We also wanted to share a small glimpse of how autism has shaped our family, along with some of our son Gauges accomplishments.
Before we started our business, my husband would have to take vacation days so we could take our boys to the movies, aquarium, etc. during the week, so that way it was less crowds, less noise, more sensory friendly for his needs.
With our business, we are thankful to be busy on the weekends, and have time during the week to do all of these things as a family more often, and because of that, he has gotten so much more practice of being independent in town and is excelling!
We heard for the first time in 14 years our son call us “Mom” and “Dad”!
That is a moment my husband and I won’t ever forget.
When Gauge was younger, he couldn’t communicate, and had given us names of “honey” and “buddies”, were still not sure where he picked those names from, but we are so glad today to finally hear and be called “Mom and Dad” 🥹 it’s a feeling like no other. 💗
Today, Gauge is doing phenomenal at labeling his feelings and communicating his needs.
We are now working on how to understand others peoples feelings, how to start and continue a conversation, and so much more.
With that we thank you all! You all have given our family an amazing opportunity. Gauge has always needed one-on-one help and guidance, and we’re so lucky we are both able to be home to provide our son the support he needs, and be home with both our boys.
