More than once I have been asked as an event planner for the past 20 years how do you plan a big event on a strict budge. Whether its a wedding, anniversary or corporate event we all have to adhere to budgets and if you aren't careful you always have an occasion to go over budget. Below is my 5 tips for event planning and staying on your budget:
5 Tips for Event Planning on a Budget:
1. Never rule out a venue even if you think its a "UGLY" venue. Any place with enough imagination has the opportunity to become your dream palace or venue. Especially if you are on a tight budget that ugly venue can become your Taj Mahal
2. Control the light. Controlling the lights can give your event ambiance. Whatever kind of event ambiance you want lights can up your "A" game.
3. Create Memorable Vignettes. In a rented space, you most likely can't paint, replace lighting, etc. Put your creative efforts into creating really memorable areas that the guests will adore. Let your creativity soar! Use vintage pieces for centerpieces, for backdrops, even as gifts for the guests. The more you put of yourself into the event the more amazing it is.
4. Gather a group of helpers. You know how they say it takes a village, well this is true in event planning. Grab yourself a varied group of helpers and you will be amazed at how your event comes out. We all have ideas and imagination and you can all put your spin on the event and trust me it will turn out better than you could dream
5. Remember what ultimately matters. Whether its a wedding, anniversary, corporate event or fundraising. What really matters in event planning is the purpose and people. At the end of the day the purpose of your event will shine through.
I firmly believe if you follow these tips and your budget you will have an event your guests will talk about for years to come.
