We’re petal-ing some serious summer vibes! The flowers around our center are in full bloom, and they’re looking unbe-leaf-ably beautiful.

🎭 Sketch Level 1: Intro to Comedy Writing
📍 Wednesday nights starting June 18
🌟 Sketch Level 1 is your starting point for writing funny, compelling sketches. You’ll learn the basics of comedic structure, punchlines, and character-driven humor. Through writing exercises and group collaboration, you'll explore how to develop strong premises, create memorable characters, and build scenes that keep audiences laughing.

🎭 Sketch Level 3: R***e (for students who have take Levels 1 & 2 with Black Sheep)
📍 Wednesday nights starting June 18
🌟 Sketch Level 3 focuses on assembling an hour-long r***e, guiding you through every aspect of putting together a polished, cohesive show. You’ll learn how to build an effective run order, select the right cast for each sketch, and how to block the sketches on stage. We will also cover practical elements like props, costumes, and tech, ensuring your show runs smoothly.

💥 Class starting next week: Intro to Book Art! 💥

There are just 5 spots left for Joseph Gu's () Intro to Book Art class! This class will cover basic bookbinding techniques, introduction to the book structure and methods of planning layout and graphic design. Students will be making an accordion artist book with cyanotype pages at the end.

Learn techniques you can then apply to future bookmaking projects, including:
📖 Pamphlet making (pamphlet stitch, two sewn-in-one).
📚 Coptic stitch with exposed spine, glued spines (and bookcloth)
📕 Making of custom covers, and special page inserts
📖 Hard cover case bound book
📚 Japanese stitch and binding using hardwares.

Tajrish Bazaar: Silk Road Goods & Social

Join us this Saturday, June 7th from noon to 3:30 p.m. at the Sweet Bay Gallery,
ArtsCenter, for a reprise of Tajrish Bazaar. We once again invite you to come and
mingle while you browse through an eclectic selection of wares, and haggle at this
Middle Eastern market.

On offer will be Iranian handicrafts including colorful termeh tapestries, hand
carved wooden hookahs, ornate gulf burqas, a variety of jewelry, knitted wool
booties, and much more. Imported delicacies such as rare Persian blue salt,
premium saffron, and herbal teas will also be available for your consideration.
Our exhibiting artist Sia Yazdanfar will be on hand to answer any questions you
may have, regarding his work as well as these unique wares procured during
voyages to his motherland.

The Sweet Bay Gallery is currently hosting Of Quicksilver and Dust, archival prints
of images from deserts and desert settlements in the heart of Iran (April 30th
thru June 7th).

Traditional chai will be served throughout the afternoon.

Come share your images for a professional photo critique session with photographer and college-level educator, Barbara Tyroler. Network and discuss your projects and goals with other intermediate-advanced level lens-based artists and professional photographers in our community. Learn about our photography program, our new Media Lab, and the ArtsCenter gallery. Maximum 5 works per participant, prints or digital files. Afterwards for those interested, we will visit the local galleries for the Second Friday Art Walk in Carrboro.
