T W E N T Y Y E A R S

So many thoughts about it. One thing I know for sure is this would have never been possible without being in business with my mom. I was a teacher with a secure teaching job. She knew I didn’t love it and encouraged me to not settle for a career that my heart wasn’t in to. She never stopped listening or encouraging. She knew it wouldn’t be fulfilling in the long run.

We won’t get emotional about the business, as it just doesn’t take that priority in our lives, but the time we’ve spent together over the last 20 years doing this has been one of the biggest blessings of our lives. While I’d like to think I keep her young, I can’t put in to words how much wisdom, guidance and perspective she’s brought to my world, both personally and professionally.

It’s only fitting our 20th anniversary celebration falls on Mother’s Day weekend. Are you celebrating with us? Swipe to see how it started 🫠

You asked for it - we’re bringing it back. 🐣

Our holiday event “Personalize the Season” sold us all on one thing: there is nothing better than a monogram moment in real life. So this Friday, we’re doing it again - this time with an Easter twist.

We’re partnering with to bring live, on-the-spot embroidery to the most charming mobile cart you’ve ever seen. The star of the show? Easter baskets - the adult kind.
We’re talking the perfect size for candles, stationery, and lemon hand soap. Curated. Chic. Monogrammed.

For you. For your best friend. For the grown child who still deserves a basket. For the new spouse. (And yes - still absolutely for the newborns. 🥹)
All the gifting inspiration is coming your way this week. Stay close.

📍 This Friday. Don’t miss it. Preorders at link in bio. Walk-ins while supplies last.

What the post office won’t tell you……

After 20 years, I’ve found a post office who accurately quotes postage, is helpful to answer questions, and takes pride in delivering mail. However, you might not be so lucky so here we go…

✉️ hand cancel. Some post offices will charge more while others won’t offer it. Your invitations will arrive in a lot better shape by not skipping this step.

✉️ USPS Ground advantage. This costs roughly $5 per envelope but can be worth it for your peace of mind.

✉️ visit multiple post offices to have it weighed and measured. Many postal workers will estimate by holding it or loosely laying it on their grid. Check around.

✉️ Avoid dark envelopes. They’ll tell you it’s fine, you’ll see them all over Pinterest, they look great, but when you’re 3 weeks in and no one has received it, don’t send me an email 😂

✉️ don’t assume it’s one stamp. Let’s be honest, it never is. 😜

We’ll play along with this one, because it’s an excuse to share my all time favorite picture of my mom. What I love about her is I also had a darling phot of her dressed for church when she was about 8 in a peacoat and socks and patent Mary Jane’s. I said “do you want me to use this one?” She said “nah the other one is more me anyways”. 💃💃💃
We love our girls at OT, they bring good energy, talent, and help us keep brides happy!

Listen. I know you maybe can’t do all the bells and whistles, but if you’re intentional about putting and invitation suite together, the details will do the talking. They just don’t all need to talk at the same time.

1. Beveled edges. It adds production time to an invitation for good reason. It’s trimmed at a 45 degree angle then painted in a color of your choice. Keep it classic or add a pop of color here.

2. Die cuts. A classic die cut works for an invitation, then get wild with the accessory cards and less formal pieces. It adds interest and spices things up.

3. A light colored envelope adds no extra cost but will make your invitation stand out from the other mail. Why light colored? Well because USPS machines struggle to read white ink on a dark envelope or a colored envelope with ink that doesn’t provide much contrast.

4. Texture. One of the things I’m seeing most with 2026 and 2027 brides. They want to feel it, and I do too. This can be achieved with handmade papers, velvet accents, blind embossing, or a luxurious cotton stock.

5. Make it personal. Embroidery details are all the rage. Embroidered menus, place cards, welcome bags, and bridesmaid gifts offer a personalized and elevated keepsake for your guests.

As my first day back in the shop from a restful break, I thought it may be time for an introduction.

I’m Kristyn, I own the shop with my mom, Becky. We created Oliver’s Twist in 2006 when I was planning my own wedding. We absolutely loved the wedding planning process, but the paper options at the time were limiting, and the experience of buying wedding invitations felt impersonal and transactional. My parents are what I’d consider very conservative risk takers, and believe that hard work and a love for what you do goes a long way. I have seen this play out time and time again in the last 20 years. Mom and I have fun together, we crank out jobs, and we are constantly evaluating what is good for the business and what is not. Most of all, we hold on to it all very lightly, as we’ve got a few priorities that lie above work. Whenever I ask “should I ……(fill in the blank)?” She responds “do you WANT to …..(fill in the blank)?”

We still love weddings and are honored to play a small role in the process with our clients. Cheers to a fun 2026!
