Confused about Cold Brew Tea?
The Tea Tutor can explain:
Cold Brew Tea is simply the process of steeping tea in cold water-preferably overnight. This slower process transforms the tea leaves by releasing natural sweetness but with less tannins, providing a smoother, drinkable, less bitter iced tea.
The health benefits are the same as other brewing methods: (antioxidants, polyphenols, hydration,) but cold brewing provides less caffeine per cup due to the leaves steeping more slowly at lower temps. Just a few more reasons to try some today!
NOTE: Any tea you have can be cold brewed by simply adding the leaves to a pitcher of cold water. (You could even use a French press) For best results, use filtered water of course. Certain teas when cold brewed have different characteristics. Herbal blends work great because the cold steep just enhances the floral and natural sweetness of them, and black tea blends when cold brewed seem to bring out even deeper nuances.
Tips: Use about 1 to 1.5 teaspoons of loose tea per 8 oz (240 ml) of water. For stronger brews, increase slightly. Cold Brews can be stored for about 3 days in an airtight container.
Reminder: No matter the type or blend, take a chance and cold steep today! You can get cold brew packs at my booth at The Carlisle Antique mall from WED-SUN 10-6 pm OR visit Country Hen House in New Oxford. You can also message me for a local delivery!
