How I Decide Where Flowers Actually Belong 🌿

More flowers doesn't always mean better design.

When I begin planning the floral design for a wedding, I'm not simply looking for every possible place to put an arrangement. I'm looking at the space as a whole.

I consider the architecture, sightlines, guest experience, photography, movement throughout the event, and, of course, where your floral investment will have the greatest impact.

Sometimes that means a dramatic ceremony installation. Sometimes it's a beautiful floral moment at the bar or entrance. Sometimes it's choosing to leave a space intentionally untouched.

Because good floral design isn't about filling every surface, It's about knowing where flowers matter most. ✨

One thing I’ve become increasingly fascinated by is how dramatically floral design changes from region to region.

Miami moves an extraordinary volume of imported flowers, yet access to highly curated specialty product can still feel surprisingly limited compared to places like the Pacific Northwest, where grower networks and seasonal flower culture are deeply embedded into the industry.

It’s changed the way I think about seasonality, sourcing, and even design itself. Florists aren’t just designing with color and form — we’re designing within the realities of our regional ecosystems.

And the more I think about it, the more I believe access shapes artistry.

When florists consistently have access to nuanced, seasonal, specialty product, it expands creative skill, experimentation, collaboration, and ultimately the visual identity of an entire market.

It makes me wonder what Florida floristry could become with stronger networks between growers, boutique wholesalers, and designers seeking more regionally connected sourcing.

Planning wedding flowers in SWFL isn’t about limiting your vision, it’s about designing with intention.

No blooms are off limits. Even delicate varieties can absolutely be incorporated beautifully, they just need thoughtful placement, proper hydration, and a plan that considers the environment they’re in.

From sun exposure and timing to repurposing designs into high-impact areas (preferably shaded), every decision plays a role in how your florals look and last throughout the day.

My approach is always to work *with* the space so your flowers not only look beautiful, but hold up beautifully too.

Because the goal isn’t just stunning florals… it’s florals that last long enough to be fully experienced. 🌿

This is why floral design in Florida is as much logistics as it is artistry.
