INTRODUCING the Ranunculus!! A brand new bulb flower for us.🤩 These flowers are known for their long-lasting blooms and are frequently used in bouquets, particularly in spring and summer. Additionally, their lush, green foliage serves as a nice backdrop to the colorful flowers, enhancing their visual appeal. Both in gardens and as cut flowers, ranunculus add a touch of elegance and charm.

For those of you that are purchasing my Dahlia tubers here are some basic instructions for planting and care. :

Growing dahlia tubers can be a rewarding experience, as these vibrant flowers can add beautiful color to your garden. Here are some steps to help you successfully grow dahlia tubers:
1. Choose the Right Location: Dahlias prefer a sunny spot with well-draining soil. Aim for at least 6 to 8 hours of sunlight daily.
2. Prepare the Soil: Before planting, loosen the soil to a depth of about 12 inches. Mix in well-rotted compost or organic matter to enrich the soil and improve drainage.
3. Timing: Plant your dahlia tubers in the spring after the last frost date in your area. This ensures that the soil has warmed up, which is beneficial for growth.
4. Planting Depth and Spacing: Dig holes about 6 to 8 inches deep. Space tubers approximately 18 to 24 inches apart to allow for their growth. Place the tuber in the hole with the eye (the small bud) facing upward, then cover it with soil.
5. Watering: After planting, water the tubers well. Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Once the plants establish, you can reduce watering, but ensure they do not dry out completely.
6. Fertilization: Apply a balanced fertilizer every 4 to 6 weeks throughout the growing season to promote healthy growth and flowering.
7. Staking: As dahlia plants grow, they can become top-heavy. Consider staking them early to support their stems and prevent breakage.
8. Pest and Disease Management: Keep an eye out for pests like aphids or spider mites and diseases like powdery mildew. Use appropriate methods, such as insecticidal soap or fungicides, if necessary.
9. Harvesting: Once the flowers bloom, regularly deadhead spent blooms to encourage more flowers. In late fall, after the first frost, cut back the stems and prepare to dig up the tubers.
10. Storing Tubers: After the foliage has died back, carefully dig up the tubers. Clean them and allow them to dry. Store them in a cool, dark, and dry place, ideally in slightly damp peat moss or sand, to prevent them from drying out.
By following these steps, you can enjoy a lush display of dahlias throughout the growing season. Happy gardening!

And then one of my favorites, With its distinctive tublar shape it can open and close when gently squeezed, resembling the mouth of a dragon—hence the name!
A good friend once told me her grandmother always gave them the blooms to play with as a child .. using the “mouth” to “talk”! What fun memories:):)
