Cronnelly Announces County Commissioner Run

Butte, MT – Former Chief Executive candidate, Tom Cronnelly, recently announced his plan to seek the Butte-Silver Bow County Commissioner position for District 5.

Cronnelly, a Butte native is the former co-owner of OMG! Mongolian Grill which was destroyed in the M&M Bar and Grill fire in May 2021. He previously placed third in the 2020 Chief Executive primary behind then incumbent Dave Palmer and current Chief Executive, JP Gallagher. Cronnelly has deep roots in Butte with many relatives and family members including his wife Kristi and son Joseph.

District 5 is a large district that includes areas south of Butte, the East Ridge and areas outside of Butte city limits.

“I want to be an influential voice that represents the unique needs of the residents that live on the outskirts of Butte and throughout the county.”, Cronnelly said.

In his 2020 campaign, Cronnelly focused on economic development, poverty and community enrichment as his priorities.

“I still believe Butte-Silver Bow could be doing better compared to the rest of the state but we are seeing slow improvement in our economic conditions. Poverty and low wages are the root cause of many of the challenges in Butte. Crime, substance abuse, suicides and urban decay are all indicators that we have much work to do.”

“My plan is to listen to my constituents and to represent them well at the council meetings and to make sound decisions as a commissioner by researching the issues and being prepared to legislate using good judgment.”, Cronnelly mentioned.

Since the closure of his restaurant, Cronnelly has been busy. “I have done a lot of volunteer work in the community and serve on several boards including the Butte Silver-Bow Chamber of Commerce Executive Board, Silver Bow Developmental Disabilities Council, Montana Council on Developmental Disabilities in Helena and helped lead the support efforts for the Special Olympics State Basketball Tournament that was held in Butte from 2018-2022. I also enjoyed being a background actor for the series 1923.”

Currently, Cronnelly is a Marketing Manager for TDS Telecom and is leading the local efforts to launch TDS Fiber internet, TV and Phone services in Butte.

October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month! A time to recognize and address the challenges people with disabilities face in the workforce. Now more than ever, employers would benefit greatly from loyal, dependable workers with limited abilities.

In the past, OMG Grill / Food Truck and Catering had led the charge locally to bring awareness to NDEAM through our restaurant takeover event, "OMG! I have a Job!" Again this year, as a result of the fire that impacted our facility, we regret that we are unable to host this event.

It is our hope that in the future, we will once again have the opportunity to bring awareness and to highlight the many skills of disabled workers in Butte and the surrounding area.

Thank you for your past support and please consider employing individuals with developmental disabilities. They are loyal, hard working and can make a fantastic addition to your workplace.
