Tuesday, the BBQ world grew quieter as we said goodbye to Mr. Steve Grady — pitmaster, teacher, friend and legend. At 90 years old, he passed peacefully at home, surrounded by family.
For decades, Mr. Grady tended the fire the old-fashioned way, slow-smoking whole hogs over oak and hickory. He didn’t just build barbecue — he built a legacy of excellence, humility, and care that shaped Grady’s BBQ and touched countless lives.
Though his hands will no longer stoke the coals, his spirit lives on in every story, every lesson, and every shared meal.
Mr. Grady, we salute you! A smile, a tip of the hat — your work here is done, but your legacy lives on. We’ll keep the smoke rising, just like you did for so many decades, bringing people together over great BBQ. ❤️
Visitation: Tuesday, Sept. 2, 5–7 p.m. at Howell Funeral Home & Crematory, Goldsboro
Service: Wednesday, Sept. 3, 11 a.m., same location. Burial at Flanagan Cemetery, Seven Springs.
RIP Steve Grady, Sr. (1935-2025)
