2024: Five Marines were killed when their CH-53E Super Stallion helicopter crashed in San Diego County, California, on February 6, 2024, during a nighttime training flight from Creech Air Force Base, Nevada, to Marine Corps Air Station Miramar. The helicopter crashed into a mountain due to pilot error, compounded by deteriorating weather conditions and the use of night-vision goggles, according to a 2025 investigation. The crew included three pilots and two crew chiefs from Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 361 (the Flying Tigers), all of whom were in their 20s.

What is your primary mission fuel today? 👇
In the military, success doesn't just depend on your gear—it depends entirely on your mindset. When the radar goes dark and plans change, you don't freeze. You lock in.
Look at the four operational mindsets below. Drop the emoji of the one you are deploying today in the comments!
• ⚡ THE ADAPTIVE COMMANDER: "Improvise, Adapt, and Overcome." You don't panic when plans fail; you pivot and execute.
• 🛡️ THE SHIELD BEARER: "No one gets left behind." Your focus today is protecting, supporting, and lifting up your team.
• 🎯 THE SNIPER: "One shot, one kill." Extreme focus. You are tuning out the noise to crush one major, critical objective.
• ⚓ THE ANCHOR: "Hold the line." Under pressure, you stay calm, steady, and immovable.
Drop your emoji below and tell us: What's the biggest "objective" you're tackling today? Let’s see who is in the ranks! 🫡

Atop Mount Suribachi, amidst fierce fighting in the Pacific, six United States Marines raised a flag that would become one of the most famous symbols in World War II history.

This photograph by Joe Rosenthal captures a moment that transcended the battlefield. Behind the waving flag lies the courage, sacrifice, and struggle of the soldiers facing one of the most difficult battles of the war against Japan.

The identities of the six flag raisers have now been verified through historical research. They were Michael Strank, Harlon Block, Franklin Sousley, Ira Hayes, Harold Schultz, and Harold “Pie” Keller.

Three of them, Strank, Block, and Sousley, died in battle on Iwo Jima. Their names are part of a story of sacrifice that continues to be remembered today.

A photograph freezes a moment in history, but the courage and sacrifice behind it will live on in the memories of future generations.

DOTHAN AL, December 5-7,2026 quote from Diane:
“The American Legion Post 12 family proudly displays these Tribute Walls to honor the brave men and women who answered our nation’s call, remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice, and recognize the families who carry the cost of their service. Through the Vietnam Tribute Wall, the Gulf War on Terror Wall, and the Cost of Freedom Wall, we preserve their stories, honor their courage, and remind future generations that freedom is never free. We display these walls not simply to remember history, but to ensure that no hero is forgotten and no sacrifice is ever taken for granted.”
