The West Virginia Wesleyan College Department of Music is bringing together alumni, students and faculty to celebrate the teaching and upcoming retirement of Dr. Melody Meadows M’85. Meadows, professor of piano and organ, has taught at WVWC for over 30 years guiding hundreds of students.

On Saturday, April 18, alumni, students and faculty will perform a recital in Loar Auditorium at 3 p.m. featuring students Aubree Bozic and Amelia Hughes , alumns Lauren (Smith) Hull and Savannah (Gwinn) Wright, faculty/alumni Jessica Scott and Brett Miller , and music faculty Dr. Dan Hughes.

On Sunday, April 19, at 5:30 p.m. in Wesley Chapel, nearly 40 alumni singers are joining WVWC’s Concert Chorale and Concentus Vocum, along with several alumni pianists: Scott, Miller, Hull, and Robin Bohn.

The program will feature selections from Joseph Byrd’s To Elinor Wylie and Johannes Brahms’ Liebeslieder Walzer, Opus 52.

“Byrd’s work sets poems by Edna Saint Vincent Millay, writing about her esteemed colleague Elinor Wylie, two women ahead of their time,” Hughes said. “Brahms set his waltzes for four-hands piano, and both works feature stunning composition for the piano and singers.

Receptions will follow both events in Loar.

Are you ready for DEATHTRAP?
DEATHTRAP by Ira Levin
Directed by Greg Mach

April 9-11, 7:30pm, 2pm matinee Apr 11, PAC

Sidney Bruhl, a successful writer of Broadway thrillers, is struggling to overcome a dry spell which has resulted in a string of failures and a shortage of funds. A possible break in his fortunes occurs when he receives a script from a student in the seminar he has been conducting at a nearby college—a thriller that Sidney recognizes immediately as a potential Broadway smash. Sidney’s plan, devised with his wife’s help, is to offer collaboration to the student for co-credit. Or is it? DEATHTRAP provides twists and turns of devilish cleverness, and offers hilariously sudden shocks in such abundance that audiences will be spellbound until the very last moment.

“It is a classic thriller, a genre with a style, a manner and an audience of its own.” —New York Post.

“The intricately fashioned plot contortions brought gasps, the comedy lines drew delighted chortles…” —The Hollywood Reporter.

“Two-thirds a thriller and one-third a devilishly clever comedy… Suspend your disbelief and be delighted. Scream a little. It’s good for you.” —Cue Magazine.

“If you care to assassinate yourself with laughter, try DEATHTRAP.” —Time Magazine.

As many of you may already know, Dr. Melody Meadows is retiring at the end of this academic year! I'm reaching out to see if you'd be interested and able to come to Wesleyan's campus to celebrate Mel, with a choral concert on Sunday, April 19. Performance and rehearsal times will depend a bit upon availability of all participating. I've selected several movements from Brahms’ Liebeslieder Walzer and Byrd's To Elinor Wylie. At this time, if you’re available and interested, please send me your preferred email address so I can send you important messages! You can send it in Messenger along with your full name and voice part, or you can email it to Dr. Dan at [email protected]. AND PLEASE SHARE THIS MESSAGE WITH ANY ALUMNI YOU KNOW, AND THINK MIGHT BE INTERESTED IN JOINING US. OR JUST SHARE TO YOUR PAGES!
