The Return of Jazz @ Lemont with RJ Miller () Trio, this Friday June 20th - Doors 7pm

Join us for an unforgettable evening of boundary-pushing jazz at the historic Lemont Hall this coming Friday at 7pm. North American drummer, composer, and educator RJ Miller returns to the Hall with a performance that journeys from the ancient to the avant-garde. Known for his deeply expressive playing and seamless integration of electronic and ambient textures, Miller brings a rare sensitivity and curiosity to the drum kit.

He’ll be joined by longtime musical collaborators:🎶 Levon Henry on woodwinds – bringing warmth, depth, and lyricism🎶 Ross Gallagher on bass – grounding the trio with harmonic richness and groove

Together, this trio will explore a soulful, improvisation-driven set that defies convention and honors jazz’s ever-evolving spirit.

CREATING DYNAMIC PASTELS

Painting is learning to see. Often, we paint what we think we see because we all have preconceived notions of what something looks like. However, to really paint what you see, you must break down everything you are looking at into just abstract shapes. Don’t see a “house”, see a series of interlocking shapes.

Working from their own photo references, students will transform these into pastel paintings using the principles of color, value and design. Along with a painting demonstration, Aline will talk about understanding color in terms of temperature, intensity and value while translating those ideas using pastel technique.

Demonstrations will be of landscapes, figures in an environment and portraits, but students are welcome to choose whatever they wish to paint.

This Saturday February 22nd with doors at 6:30 and Music at 7pm come enjoy the latest in our Live @ Lemont music series with local legend, guitarist Dave Bullard and special guest, Mr. Denny Breau.

Tickets at www.LemontBlock.com/events

Singer Songwriter Dave Bullard of Harpswell has toured nationwide and has recorded over 15 total albums. His music has been described as Bossa nova Jazz and Flamenco with a twist of lime, and we’re so excited to welcome his twangy, hyper picked or laid way back soulful vibes in the acoustically supreme Lemont Hall.
Denny Breau’s rhythmically flawless and dazzlingly clear style allows him to do amazing and stunning things with a six-string guitar. He first draws in an audience with a finely arranged melody and then slides effortlessly into scorching fingerwork that sets ears aflame. The lighting fast guitar lines that seem almost humanly impossible to accomplish are balanced with those that have a quiet intimacy and wrap tenderly around his carefully crafted songs. He mixes genres with ease — folk, Delta blues, country and jazz — “creating a totally accessible musical mélange that captivates as it entertains,” according to Lucky Clark writing for the Kennebec (Maine) Journal.
Guitarists in the audience often suspect that they have been left in the dust and regularly tell Denny that they might as well hang up their guitars! As Denny greets concert-goers and shakes hands following his performances, guitar players invariably ask how he performs certain techniques and Denny, who has a passion for teaching, is happy to show them. This is especially true when demonstrating the guitar style of Chet Atkins, who was a family friend and major influence. Shows usually include a “smartly executed Chet Atkins medley by Breau who truly does the late Atkins proud,” according to a review in Dirty Linen magazine.
