Dear WhistleStop Community,
During the past several months, as part of a strategic business review, the EarlyWorks Foundation Board of Directors has been evaluating the activities and events it chooses to undertake to raise funds in support of the EarlyWorks Family of Museums. After thoughtful deliberation they have decided to move in new directions and say goodbye to the WhistleStop Festival. WhistleStop Festival 2022, which was held at John Hunt Park this past September was the last WhistleStop.
Since 2001 the EarlyWorks Foundation has produced, The WhistleStop Festival, one of the premier BBQ Competitions in the Southeast. During the past 20+ years it has been a privilege to entertain the community while raising funds for the education initiatives at the EarlyWorks Children’s Museum, Alabama Constitution Hall Park and the Historic Huntsville Depot. This festival has seen thousands of visitors and BBQ cooks from across the United States. The community support was the best part of this event, and the EarlyWorks Family of Museums is truly grateful. During the 22 years, thousands of cooking teams, volunteers, partners, vendors, and sponsors have lent their time and talents to help make the festival a success. We thank you and everyone who has supported WhistleStop. Keep your eyes on EarlyWorks… new events and programs are coming! Thank you for the great memories!

WhistleStop Weekend is all about the barbeque! No visit would be complete without tasting what the fuss is all about. On Saturday, September 10th from noon to 2pm, the amateur division, better known as the Shadetree Barbeque Teams will let you sample and judge the pork they are smoking. This competition raises money for STEM education initiatives at the EarlyWorks Children’s Museum. $1 equals 1 vote…this competition gets serious. Located in the Shadetree BBQ area.
