A pivotal year in which I moved from NYC to Portugal to write my first novel

1) 2025 was a pivotal year. In April I moved from NYC, my home for 10 years, to Portugal with my wife to focus on writing our first novels and experience a better quality of life. I had to take a break from music, but it’s been a healthy & productive reset. No regrets :)
2) A stranger took this on the subway; besides the setting, I feel this moment of spontaneous, social creativity encapsulates life in Bushwick/Ridgewood the last 2 years.
3) An unforgettable night (& morning) feat. the incomparable &
4) Proud of the music I released in 2025, incl with .rasa.records & !
5) S/o for having me spin my last DJ mix in NYC (stream it on their YT)
6) Saying goodbye to , our backyard/ playground/host of peak nights w/ friends on the dance floor
7) Making music all night into the final morning before I sold the desk & packed everything to move. I cried knowing I would not bring my home studio & sound system to Portugal. This apt was also the best I ever had in my 10 years in NYC. So many great memories.
8) We moved, and I turned 30 in Lisbon
9) Writing draft 1 of my dystopian/scifi novel in a local cafe/mercado
10) An unforgettable trip to Dublin w/ & friends! 🤘🏻🇮🇪
11) Enjoying .nz , where we’ve stayed connected to dance music and have met some really good people!
12) Exploring historic places in Portugal

14) Reading/researching for my book (pre-beach) w/ Xena. Loved spending more time by the ocean this year.
15) 1st renaissance faire at a real castle in Obidos :)
16) Fell back in love with reading; read 23 books!
17) Frolicking to a “shortcut” to the beach, we got lost, chased by some dogs, wearing the wrong shoes... good fun :) I love our little adventures 🤍
18) Bahamas Xmas with family was a dream. Got to feed & pet sea turtles & stingrays. God is in Nature! And I admit I was somewhat deprived in NYC.
19) Sometimes we stop and think, yes, we really are that young couple who up and moved to Portugal and are writing novels…whatever happens, we’re doing something right!
20) Running into 2026 with focus, gratitude, commitment, and creativity 🤍

After 10 years, my time in NYC has come to an end. Thank you to everyone who’s been a part of my journey here. This city is where I started making music, it will forever be a part of me, but I’m excited to move to Portugal.

The greatest gift NYC gave to me was meeting my wife in the crowd at a live concert. The last couple years in NYC together have been the best of all and changed my perspective, priorities and self for the better.

Something I haven’t shared here before is that I was a writer long before I became a musician, and my wife helped encourage me to finally start writing my first novel— the dystopian sci fi story that inspired my music project in the first place.

With 2 label releases this year and a new single out now, I will never stop making music, but I am *meant* to write this book, and I’m sure you’ll understand...

In Portugal, we’ll write, enjoy nature, DJ here and there, and explore the rest of Europe. It’s going to be an incredible chapter of our lives, and I will be sharing more of my journey as a writer/expat at .writes if you want to follow along.
