From Butterfield, with Love
Nearly nine years ago, I could never have imagined that a simple trip to visit my best friend and celebrate Mardi Gras would lead to a journey that changed my life in the most meaningful ways. That weekend marked the beginning of a new chapter for Edgewood, now lovingly known as Butterfield Mansion, and for me.
What followed were years filled with stories I could never fully capture, lessons learned the hard way, and blessings beyond measure. This home, my neighbors on Storm Avenue, the Brookhaven community, and the countless friends I’ve made along the way have shaped me in ways I will always carry with me.
There were moments when many questioned whether a house that was quite literally falling in on itself could ever be brought back to life. Cars passed by daily, slowing down, peeking in, hoping, and eventually believing. In less than two years, through hard work and what can only be described as a true labor of love, she stood restored, proud, and once again open to the community. Butterfield Mansion was back.
From the very first couple, Ellen and Jack Gratwick, to the last, Madisyn and Duncan Bane, and every couple in between who trusted Butterfield Mansion with their wedding day, each holds a special place in my heart. I’ve celebrated with them, watched families grow, and even shared tears along the way. Every single one was part of a dream come true.
Over the years, Butterfield has been home to charity events, princesses, brides, seniors, retirees, and so many celebrations that brought this community together. We laughed, we gathered, and we made memories. There were lessons along the way, but above all, there were countless blessings.
As 2026 approaches, Butterfield Mansion will begin a new chapter. December 31 will be my last day as its owner. My heart is full of gratitude for the love, support, and encouragement you have shown me and for the role each of you played in this journey.
To my Storm Avenue crew, thank you for letting me dream and for jumping into that dream right alongside me. I can’t imagine weddings without my favorite wedding crashers, daily visits from the unofficial mob boss of Storm Avenue, Sherman Fitzsimmons or watching the neighborhood children grow into young adults.
To the many friends I’ve made over the years, you are a true blessing in my life. And to my friends at Betty’s, I’m not quite sure what I’ll do without you, but I know exactly where I’ll go when I come back to visit.
Thank you, Brookhaven, for your love, your support, and for being such an important part of my dream.
With all my love,
Stacie Cross
