Tuesday 6-16-26 High winds.
Hail measured between 1/4-1/2”. Backyard all good.
Field checked. Few fixes to landscape barrier needed.
But… CHECK OUT the 3 BQ YORK overachievers!!! 😳
I think they are going to be TALLLLL!

Backyard dahlia update. Dahlias are all pinched & filling in well. Started putting up hortonova netting today for support. Thankful for the cooler temps & damp ground to drive in T-posts a little easier.

Field planting is officially done! 🥳🎊🎉Now to add some more stakes and corral them all. This year we have dahlias, basil, snapdragons, calendula, amaranth, bachelor buttons, statice, celosia & more! I’m hoping my tight planting layout will help them support each other also. 🌺🌸💐

I feel like backyards are forever a work in progress but things are getting done!
50+ dahlia grow bags planted, 8 raised beds completed, perennial garden & most landscape weeded, river rock is being added & our vegetable garden is sprouting. Productive day & beautiful night here in Michigan! ☀️🌖

Question of the day: Do we add the entire 2nd row of grow bags on the ground behind the fence? (Currently showing about 12 on the ground & 40+ on the retaining wall)

Planting a little different this year since we added the field at the cottage. All cuttings were planted at home (Bronson).
At the field (Colon, MI):
All dahlias that I presprouted (& have roots) are planted in alphabetical order in the field first so they can be watered immediately.
All tubers (sprouted too but minimal roots) will be planted in different rows so I can avoid watering for a couple weeks.
Celosia is all tucked in (450+). It’s been a long day but we’re making progress. 😊
